Hello Boulder City! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and it might be a good opportunity to take a minute to look into the world of love.
It’s easy to equate the word with the romantic love of the movies. Some of us aren’t lucky enough to have found that special someone in our lives who fills that role.
We have love of our children, parents and friends who provide an important element in our world. Some of us love Maui, San Diego and Jackson Hole, Wyo. We love chocolate, pizza and Grandma’s cookies. We love our pets, our shoes, our doctor and the weather in Las Vegas (sometimes).
Occasionally the word is used as a deep and abiding feeling to us and other times denotes a preference to one thing over another. We throw the word around to describe innate behavior or inanimate objects without stopping to think of the emotion involved in the core of the word.
Take a minute, today, to truly appreciate the people and things that you truly treasure or love. More than that, make love a verb (action word) and do something lovable for someone today. It might feel good enough to make it a habit.
Now let’s see what’s been shakin’.
Jan. 29. Wanted: A subject reports that he loaned his car to some friends and now wants to report it stolen. Officers check the residence of the friends but locate only a wanted person and no car. The car was returned later that day at 2:48 a.m. in the 800 block of Utah Street.
Traffic stop: An international traveler was cited and is unlikely to return for court. The traveler was escorted to the court to post bail at 8:09 a.m. in the area of the south city limits.
Petty larceny: The reporting party is an off-duty officer who is detaining a shoplifter. The offender is arrested at 4:39 p.m. in the 800 block of Buchanan Boulevard.
Thought for the day: When deciding to possibly shoplift, just don’t.
Jan. 30. Reckless: There is a report of a vehicle “all over the road.” The subject has two flat tires on the passenger side of the vehicle at 2:32 a.m. in the area of Nevada Way and Fir Street.
Threats: A caller states her son was threatened and shot with a paintball gun. The ongoing investigation was started at 4:53 p.m. in the 700 block of Avenue I.
Assist other agency: Officers were asked to assist Parole and Probation in locating one of its subjects. The person was located and arrested at 7:47 p.m. in the 1000 block of Nevada Way.
Thought for the day: Parole and Probation is serious about its conditions. Violate them and they will allow you to think about it for a long time in the cross-bar hotel.
Jan. 31. Officer contact: An officer out with a subject who is doing business without a license. Information was sent to the business licensing department at 10:23 a.m. in the 200 block of Golden Court.
Traffic stop: A subject was very confused about not being able to talk on a cellphone when driving because lots of other people are seen doing it. The subject will be able to give firsthand knowledge of how expensive it can be at 10:56 a.m. in the 1100 block of Nevada Highway.
Medical alarm: Police receive a report of a medical alarm for an unknown problem. The homeowner was surprised to have a bedroom full of paramedics as she was calmly reading how to operate her new medical alarm at 11:50 p.m. in the 800 block of Montera Lane.
Thought for the day: The Hands Free Device Law is for everyone, and by the looks of the citations every day, people are just a little slow in figuring out it also pertains to them.
Feb. 1. DUI: An officer observes the “telltale” signs of an impaired driver. The subject fails field sobriety tests and is arrested at 12:22 a.m. in the 400 block of Nevada Way.
Burglary: There is a report of a theft of many valuable items. The report was taken at 9:52 a.m. in the 800 block of Del Rey Drive.
Reckless driver: A subject on a motorcycle fails to yield at speeds of more than 100 mph. You may outrun our vehicles, but you won’t outrun the radio at 4:17 p.m. in the area of Railroad Pass.
Thought for the day: Imbibing before the big game might just impact your ability to actually be present at your own Super Bowl party.
Feb. 2. Reckless driver: A caller reports a dark-colored SUV has an officer hanging inside the window as the vehicle goes around in circles in the median. Another jurisdiction has a request for assistance during a routine stop at 12:38 p.m. on U.S. Highway 95 near mile marker 44.
DUI: A subject stopped for various traffic infractions appears to have been celebrating the game just a little longer than others at 2:36 p.m. in the area of Adams Boulevard and Avenue B.
Suspicious: Officers received a report of a possible medical problem with a male slumped behind the wheel in the parking lot. The subject says he will not slump in the future when talking on his cellphone at 5:21 p.m. in the 800 block of Buchanan Boulevard.
Thought for the day: If you ever wonder why an officer is so cautious when approaching your car on a traffic stop, just refer to the first call of the afternoon.
Feb. 3. Assist other agency: A request to assist another agency locating a robbery suspect believed to be in our jurisdiction is received. The vehicle was located at 12:59 a.m. in the 1000 block of Nevada Way.
Disturbance: The reporting party is requesting documentation of his cousin calling him names. Both parties are in the lobby area yelling loudly at 9:46 a.m. in the 1000 block of Arizona Street.
Battery: Officers receive a report of two subjects in a business who were in an altercation and wanted to press charges. After shaking hands, they decided to call it a day at 1:55 p.m. in the 900 block of Adams Boulevard.
Thought for the day: In my day, if my cousin called me names, I simply stopped talking to him.
Feb. 4. Suspicious: There is a report of a dump truck with white smoke coming from the cab. It was determined to be only mechanical issues at 7:45 a.m. in the intersection of U.S. Highway 95 at U.S. Highway 93.
Attempt to locate: Police receive a report of a homeless camp near the River Mountains Loop Trail. A tent was located and notice left on the door at 1:26 p.m. in the area of Railroad Pass.
Suspicious: A subject reports a man with a metal detector and small shovel digging up the ground. The male decided to find a less public place to practice with his new toy at 4:04 p.m. in the area of 1900 Buchanan Boulevard.
Thought for the day: The commercials show metal detecting as a chance to find millions of dollars of valuable items at the beach; too bad we don’t have a beach.
Call of the week: Officers receive a report about a preteen refusing to go to school. The parent thinks the child has a defiant disorder. A school officer returns the child to school. (My parents seemed to have a remedy for that disorder.)
Have a great week!
