The scammers appear to be getting hungry again so we would like to remind you of a few things to keep in mind as you go about your everyday lives.
The city issues solicitors permits to those companies who wish to go door-to-door to sell their goods or services. If the person appearing at your house is not able to produce one, send that person on his or her way and call us with a description of the person, the vehicle and direction he or she went when leaving your home.
The phone scams seem to consist of the IRS calling (it doesnt) asking you to purchase iTunes cards (really?) and to call back with the numbers, the grandkid you havent talked to in a long time calling for bail money, the police department is soliciting donations for your local department, theres a warrant for your arrest so just send some prepaid gift cards, etc. These are all scams.
Dont listen, dont fall for it. They may have your name, your street address, maybe even the last four digits of your Social Security number. Do not speak to them, give them information, or entertain yourself by engaging in conversation. Believe me, they will call so many times afterward you will understand this warning. Just hang up the phone.
I can assure you if you have a warrant, a phone call is not what you will receive. The rest are just out of the realm of possibility … really? Bail and gift cards? Keep your friends safe also and spread the word.
June 23. Suspicious: The caller states there has been several rounds of people knocking and no one there at 3:03 a.m. in the 1500 block of Nevada Highway.
DUI: The driver attempts to leave the parking lot while several people attempt to keep the vehicle from leaving at 2:46 p.m. in the 800 block of Buchanan Boulevard.
Thought for the day: Thank you to all the citizens attempting to keep everyone safe.
June 24. Assist: A residentially challenged woman was given assistance in attempts to reunite her with someone she may know or be related to at 7:28 p.m. in the area of 600 Adams Street.
DUI: The driver is arrested, dog admitted to the shelter and vehicle impounded at 8:46 p.m. in the 1500 block of Nevada Highway.
Thought for the day: Mental illness and homelessness can be very dangerous in this heat.
June 25. Battery: Officers make contact with a man with lacerations on his forehead at 5:15 a.m. in the area of Buchanan Boulevard and Pinata Way.
DUI: Several callers identify a vehicle all over the roadway and provide updates until we can arrive at 2:30 p.m. in the area of Bay View and Lake Mountain drives.
Thought for the day: One more person gets a night at the Henderson Crossbar Hilton.
June 26. See a person: A man flags down an officer after he locked himself out of his vehicle and cannot find his keys or wallet at 3:39 a.m. in the area of Arizona Street and Nevada Way.
Threats: A vagrant subject talking loudly decides to return to Henderson and Las Vegas when the bus arrives at 8:43 p.m. in the 900 block of Utah Street.
Thought for the day: Sometimes karma seems to show up to make sure that drinking and driving dont occur.
June 27. Theft: Items are taken and equipment vandalized during the night at 5:04 a.m. in the area of Elm Street and Juniper Way.
Suspicious: Neighbors report the garage door has been open several hours and believe the owners are on vacation at 8:59 p.m. in the 600 block of Avenue I.
Thought for the day: The owners are just downtown but are glad for cautious neighbors.
June 28. Suspicious: Officers are directed to meet a subject to follow them to the residence where someone is reportedly sleeping underneath the house at 1:57 a.m. in the 1500 block of Nevada Highway.
Civil: The caller reports finding a note on their car from the other person on the car loan advising not to drive the car or the wheels would fall off as the lug nuts have been taken at 8:03 a.m. in the 1300 block of Darlene Way.
Thought for the day: Some days are just stranger than others.
June 29. Fight: Three subjects with sticks are involved in a fight at 9:09 a.m. in the area of Gingerwood Street and Adams Boulevard.
Disturbance: An officer is out with an intoxicated subject who threw a shoe at a vehicle at 12:11 a.m. in the 1600 block of Nevada Highway.
Thought for the day: Even if you win the fight, the one with the warrant loses.
Call of the week: Suspicious: The caller wants to report a man inside and a naked woman standing outside a vehicle in the breakdown lane at 7:17 p.m. on June 23 in the area of mile marker 54 on U.S. Highway 95.
