Birthday wish program helps homeless with warm coats
Boulder City resident Blaze Trumble is collecting blankets and jackets for homeless people in the Las Vegas area as part of his annual Birthday Wish program.
Blaze, who will celebrate his 14th birthday Nov. 25, has been collecting items to help warm patrons of the Las Vegas Rescue Mission for the past eight years.
Donations will be accepted through Tuesday and will be distributed at the rescue mission Wednesday after it serves its Thanksgiving meal.
In 2013 and 2014, Blaze and his family collected more than 900 blankets and coats, as well as beanies, scarves and mittens. He hopes to exceed that number this year.
Donations can be brought to Boulder Dam Credit Union, 530 Avenue G; Boulder Dam Brewing Co., 453 Nevada Way; Albertsons, 1008 Nevada Highway; Christian Center Church, 571 Adams Blvd.; World Famous Coffee Cup, 512 Nevada Way; Plaza Realty, 581 Hotel Plaza; and Henderson Harley-Davidson, 1010 W. Warm Springs Road, Henderson.
In addition, he has set up a Go Fund Me account to accept monetary donations.

Railroad museum invites residents to join first responders at event
The Nevada State Railroad Museum is hosting an event in honor of the Boulder City Fire and Police departments. Residents and other guests will be able to meet local public safety officers while hanging out on the museum’s trains.
The event is scheduled from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the railroad museum, 601 Yucca St.
Sue Manteris, public information officer for Boulder City, said the event is a great way to thank the officers for their service and bring together the community.
