Boulder City bypass construction creates lane shift on U.S. 93
Drivers coming back to Boulder City from the Las Vegas Valley should be aware of a lane shift on U.S. Highway 93.
As of Tuesday, a 3,500-foot section of southbound traffic between Wagon Wheel Drive and Railroad Pass casino has been shifted onto a newly constructed, two-lane median with a 55 mph speed limit.
The slight shift is expected to remain in place through early January, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
The lane shift is necessary to tie into the newly built $83 million first segment of Interstate 11.
Lake Mead hiking trails open, fire restrictions lifted
Trails closed for the summer at Lake Mead National Recreation Area have reopened and seasonal fire restrictions have been lifted.
Goldstrike Canyon and Arizona Hot Spring Canyon trail heads were closed May 15 to help prevent the need to rescue those in distress.
Goldstrike Canyon is a strenuous hike, requiring bouldering and climbing. It leads to Goldstrike and Nevada hot springs and the Colorado River. The area known as White Rock Canyon has multiple trails leading to the Arizona Hot Spring, Liberty Bell Arch and the Colorado River.
As of Sept. 30, fires are permitted in Lake Mead’s backcountry; however, visitors must follow several regulations, including limit them to less than 3 feet in diameter; be at least 10 feet from the nearest beach logs, structure or vegetation; be above ground; and not use chemically treated wood.
When shoreline camping, all charcoal ashes must be packed out and disposed of in park trash receptacles after ensuring that they are completely extinguished.
