Letter carriers to collect food for annual Stamp Out campaign

You can help feed those in Southern Nevada who struggle with hunger without leaving your home.

On Saturday, letter carriers across the nation, including in Boulder City, will participate in the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the largest single-day food drive in the country.

To participate, simply leave a bag of nonperishable food by or in your mailbox. Your letter carrier will pick up the food and deliver it to a Emergency Aid of Boulder City.

Last year in Southern Nevada, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive collected close to 400,000 pounds of food that were distributed to more than 20 local food pantries. Nationally, 74 million pounds of food were collected by letter carriers, feeding an estimated 30 million people.

“The timing of this food drive is critical,” said Glenn Norton, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 2502, representing Las Vegas. “The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is always held on the second Saturday in May so that pantries can prepare for the summer months. Children, who rely on school meal programs to keep them fed, often find themselves without food once school is out.”
