School construction ceremony postponed

The ribbon-cutting ceremony to signify the start of Boulder City High School’s construction has been postponed, according to Clark County School District.

Allison Cordova of the communication department at CCSD said Tuesday the ceremony was pushed back because of a “scheduling conflict.” Cordova said the ceremony has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 29.

Principal Amy Wagner had no additional information on the matter, but said she was told it was postponed “so that everyone could come.”

Current construction will continue as planned for the time being, Cordova said, which is being done by CORE Construction.

CORE began digging trenches on school grounds on Tuesday to start the pipe-fitting process.

Nevada seeks veterans for monthly awards

Nevada is seeking nominations for its Veteran of the Month awards for 2016.

The award is a statewide recognition of veterans’ dedication, contribution and ability to commit time and energy to support veterans and the military. The award also looks for the same desire to serve that propelled veterans to sign up for the military in the first place, as well as those who take pride in caring and nurturing their local communities.

The award was first established by Gov. Brian Sandoval in 2011, and is managed by the Nevada Department of Veterans Services. Anyone can nominate candidates, and submissions will be reviewed by members of the Veterans Service Commission at its quarterly meetings.

Submissions will be accepted throughout the year, but must be on an official form, which can be found at www.veterans.nv.gov under the Veteran of the Month guidelines tab. It is recommended that nominations be submitted three week’s prior to the commission’s quarterly meetings.

Nomination packets must include a copy of a veteran’s DD-214 form and a photo of the nominee. For assistance in obtaining a copy of a DD-214 form, call the state’s department of veterans services at 775-321-4880.

Completed packets can be scanned and e-mailed to Pamela Roberts at robertsp@veterans.nv.gov or faxed to 775-688-1656.

Packets can also be filled out online, signed and mailed to: Nevada Department of Veterans Services, Attn: Pamela Roberts, 6880 S. McCarran Blvd., Bldg. A – Suite 2, Reno, NV 89509
