Skeletal remains found at Lakes Mead, Mohave

Skeletal remains of two bodies were found at different locations at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Saturday.

The first call came in at 12:15 p.m. from a pair of kayakers who found skeletal remains at river mile 62 on Lake Mohave, according to spokeswoman Christie Vanover.

“We sent out rangers and the Mohave County medical examiner,” she said. “ The coroner’s office will take the remains and identify who the individual was and the cause of death.”

Another call came at 3:45 p.m. from boaters who found skeletal remains at Stewart’s Point Cove on Lake Mead.

“At this point we don’t know who the individuals are but there are possibly three people missing at Lake Mead,” Vanover said. “In February, two boaters on Echo Bay went missing and another girl who was reportedly hiking in the park has been missing since June. There’s no evidence she was in the park, however, her friends and family believe she was.”

Vanover said a homicide investigation hasn’t been launched yet, but it has not been ruled out as a possibility.
