Road to Lake Mohave landing open for holiday weekend

Eldorado Canyon Road, which leads to Nelson’s Landing on Lake Mohave, will reopen temporarily for Labor Day weekend. However, additional closures are planned for the next two months for repairs after a storm washed away a large portion of pavement on the eastbound side.

Crews evaluated the westbound lane and determined that it can be reopened to traffic with safety precautions.

As only one lane is open in the damaged section, the speed limit has been reduced to 15 mph, and eastbound traffic will have to stop and yield to westbound traffic before bypassing the damage.

The road is scheduled to open this afternoon and will remain open through Monday. It will be temporarily closed Sept. 2-5 for repairs to a bridge on the road.

The road will reopen Sept. 6 and will remain open with one lane until construction crews can fully rebuild the eastbound lane. During reconstruction, there will be temporary closures; however, the intent is to provide open access during weekends, when possible.

During the closure, visitors can access Nelson’s Landing from the water or via Aztec Wash Road, an unpaved road that starts near the town of Nelson, Nev. Four-wheel drive, high-clearance vehicles are recommended for those who travel the backcountry road.
