The body of a Chicago man was recovered last week at Lake Mead, 13 days after he went missing.
The body of 35-year-old Istvan Tibor Feichtner was recovered July 3 after it was found floating on the surface near Castle Reef, according to Christie Vanover, spokeswoman for Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
National Park Service volunteers found the body at 8:40 a.m.
The Clark County coroner’s office ruled the death a drowning.
Feichtner disappeared near Painter’s Cove and Castle Reef after he went for a swim at 4 p.m. June 20 without a life jacket, according to witnesses. They stated he struggled in high waves.
Park Service and the Metropolitan Police Department’s Search and Rescue unit conducted a two-hour search that day, but search efforts were suspended because of unsafe weather conditions from high winds.
There have been three presumed drownings at Lake Mead this year. From 2000 to 2012, 114 people have drowned at the lake.
