I’m not sure if the sickness epidemic has affected each and every one of you yet, but we here at Boulder City Police Department are calling it Flu-zilla. The yearly malady seems to have morphed into a sneaky villain this year that shows up without warning and refuses to leave. Every day there are reports on the news of more deaths attributed to this year’s “zombie-bug.”
I personally hopped on a plane feeling wonderful and hopped off with pneumonia. I spent six days in Ohio fully bedridden and only then gained a little stamina to do a few things. Returning home, I believed it was behind me when — once again — it struck, knocking me to my knees.
It’s hard to say what the answer is but if it is at all possible, stay home and keep it from spreading. If you are at all part of an at-risk group, such as elderly, young or compromised immunity, it’s best to seek professional advice. Please don’t wait until things turn the corner to really bad to make an appointment or call for an ambulance. Better safe than sorry.
Jan. 11. Assault: The caller reports road rage and threats including a weapon at 12:02 a.m. in the 600 block of Avenue A.
Suspicious vehicle: The vehicle was seen driving up and down the street several times before the driver asked a resident if he wanted a sexual favor at 2:45 p.m. in the 1300 block of Denver Street.
Thought for the day: Get us the entire license plate, if possible, and we will do more than offer the offender a judicial favor.
Jan. 12. Civil: The reporting party states they lent the other party money based on false pretenses at 9:32 a.m. in the 1000 block of Arizona Street.
DUI with accident: The caller was hit from the rear and it was soon apparent why at 11:08 a.m. in the area of U.S. Highway 93 and Veterans Memorial Drive.
Thought for the day: We are so happy that there were no serious injuries with what could have been an extremely bad crash.
Jan. 13. Drugs: The traffic stop nets some extensive charges and gets a bit of contraband off the streets at 2:55 a.m. in the 1600 block of Boulder City Parkway.
Destruction of property: The caller reports a light pole down that appears to have been hit by a vehicle at 7:43 a.m. in the area of Hotel Plaza and Arizona Street.
Thought for the day: It’s a good thing that pole fell away from the parked vehicles.
Jan. 14. Suspicious: The woman is aggressive and cursing on the phone at 1:07 a.m. in the area of U.S. 93 and Ville Drive.
Assist: The pickup is stuck in the mud and insists someone come drag him out at 5:55 p.m. in the area mile marker 46 of U.S. Highway 95.
Thought for the day: The available resources refuse to come out until daylight and the caller doesn’t want to pay for search and rescue.
Jan. 15. Disturbance: The man is yelling, screaming and subsequently uncooperative with officers at 11:25 a.m. in the 800 block of Avenue B.
Drunk: The man who is crawling through the parking lot may be under the influence at 11:17 p.m. in the 1000 block of Nevada Way.
Thought for the day: Good guess.
Jan. 16. Traffic hazard: Several calls come in regarding a pedestrian throwing traffic cones into the travel lanes at 10:14 a.m. in the area of the overpass and U.S. 93.
Reckless: The orange Lamborghini makes a valiant attempt to break the sound barrier at U.S. 95 mile marker 32.
Thought for the day: It may be a dream car, but the citation looks like a nightmare.
Jan. 17. Drunk: The pedestrian is carrying an item but cannot stay upright and has now fallen into the street at 1:56 p.m. in the 1200 block of Avenue G.
Abandoned vehicle: The caller reports a vehicle with a flat tire and no plates dropped at the location sometime today at 6:01 p.m. in the 700 block of Elm Street.
Thought for the day: He’s not as think as you drunk he is — according to him, that is.
Call(s) of the week: Suspicious: The report states that a vehicle was seen speeding from the parking lot dragging a man who was attempting to enter the vehicle. The man was last seen walking along the roadway and could be recognized by his very large eyebrows at 8:32 a.m. on Jan. 11 in the area of Buchanan Boulevard and Del Rio Drive.
