County Commissioners pass fuel tax to fund road projects

The Clark County Commission passed by a 6-1 vote Tuesday a fuel tax that will enable the Regional Transportation Commission to partailly fund nearly 183 transportation projects in Southern Nevada, including the Interstate 11 loop around Boulder City.

Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak cast the lone “no” vote.

Transportation officials told the City Council in July that the tax is expected to raise nearly $700 million in bonds, nearly $230 million of which would go towards the second phase of loop. Construction cost of the 12-mile phase is estimated at $280 million.
