Swimming pool getting new ramps, handrails

Those with physical disabilities will find it easier to enjoy the facilities at the Boulder City pool after new ramps and handrails are installed by the end of year.

The Americans with Disabilities Act project is expected to begin sometime in November, according to City Engineer Jim Keane. Though construction will be going on near the wading pool during construction, access to the main pool will not be restricted, Keane said.

“It won’t be huge like a street project. It shouldn’t take too long,” he added.

Bids for the project began in February, with Fab 5 Construction being the lone company to submit a bid. Keane said the bid came in over budget, which prompted a delay in construction until the city was able to get the money. He added that the city was able to secure the funds through a $125,000 Community Development Block Grant.

The project is expected to take about 30 days to complete.
