City Council renews lease with communications firm

The City Council met briefly Tuesday night, although not much was discussed.

During the 15-minute meeting, council members discussed the city’s new lease agreement with Level 3 Communications. The original agreement, which began in 2000, allowed the city to lease land in Eldorado Valley to Level 3 Communications, formerly known as Williams Communications.

Level 3 Communications is a global communications provider headquartered in Broomfield, Colo., and provides communications services to enterprise, government and carrier customers.

Level 3 Communications will pay the city $117,040 from 2015 until the lease is over at the end of 2019. The total equates to $23,408 per year.

From 2001-05, it paid Boulder City an average of $13,520 per year.
