The first phase of Interstate 11 involves traffic improvements to U.S. Highway 93 in the Boulder City area. U.S. 93 is a major regional commercial corridor for interstate and international commerce and is the single route through Boulder City.
The Nevada Department of Transportation reports that project benefits will include improving safety by eliminating the dangerous half signal near Railroad Pass casino; improving operations for truck traffic and peak trips to and from Boulder City and Las Vegas; improving local circulation, and completing the initial bypass phase.
Traffic was routed to a portion of the new roadway this week in the form of a lane shift between the Wagon Wheel Drive exit and Railroad Pass. This will be the first of many changes during the construction of this large project. Drivers are advised to reduce speed and remain aware as other drivers may experience temporary confusion with the route change.
Sept. 22. Suspicious: The caller states he caught a subject in his backyard and believes he was trying to break in. Further investigation reveals an attempt to remove a foldable awning at 2:25 p.m. in the 500 block of Avenue K.
Domestic: The woman states there is a stranger in her living room fighting with her adult son and she needs officer assistance at 8:42 p.m. in the 600 block of California Avenue.
Thought for the day: Remember the days when kids couldn’t wait to move from their parents’ home and took all their friends with them?
Sept. 23. Suspicious: The caller is concerned with a vehicle parked near the caller’s home with a person sleeping in it for the second night in a row at 7:36 a.m. in the area of Milton Court and Red Rock Road.
DUI with accident: The party ends abruptly with an expensive finale at 10:47 p.m. in the area of Sixth and Utah streets.
Thought for the day: In the age of taxi cabs and Uber, there are plenty of alternatives to driving, even when marginally impaired.
Sept. 24. DUI with accident: The impaired driver has rolled the vehicle and taken out numerous light poles ending up trapped by live wires at 12:25 a.m. in the area of Colorado Street and U.S. Highway 93.
Traffic hazard: Officers are out with a foreign tourist who prefers to see the sights from the top of a moving vehicle at 9:36 a.m. in the area of U.S. 93 and Pacifica Drive.
Thought for the day: Officers often keep people from earning the Darwin Award for the year.
Sept. 25. Suspicious: A resident thinks it is suspicious when a subject moves a vehicle several different angles and takes pictures of it and the buildings behind it at 7:03 a.m. in the 300 block of Utah Street.
Panhandling: The caller reports a man with a sign panhandling at 11:16 a.m. at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive and U.S. Highway 93.
Thought for the day: The panhandler decides Henderson is a much friendlier place to fish for donations.
Sept. 26. Animal: The caller reports that an aggressive dog was biting at the caller’s golf cart and is now chasing the lawn mower at 6:34 a.m. in the area of 1 Clubhouse Drive.
Threats: The person wants to report being harassed by people for accepting donations for a nonexistent medical condition at 11:40 a.m. in the 700 block of Fifth Street.
Thought for the day: The speed of the golf game would be greatly improved with that incentive on the green.
Sept. 27. Reckless: The driver wants to cite a person tailgating and driving recklessly at 6:28 a.m. in the 900 block of Adams Boulevard.
Assist: A subject wants to turn himself in on outstanding warrants at 7:52 a.m. in the 800 block of Avenue K.
Thought for the day: I guess a jail cell is more comfortable than avoiding contact with the police.
Sept. 28. Suspicious: The caller believes the military-labeled crate might contain explosives at 9:44 a.m. in the 500 block of Fir Street.
Animal: Animal control officers team with local rescue groups to remove, treat and relocate feral cats at 9:34 p.m. in the 1500 block of Nevada Highway.
Thought for the day: Although eating a whole crate of military-grade oatmeal might result in an explosive situation, it is harmless in its inert form.
Call of the week: Assist: Officers are dispatched to a local establishment trying to evict a tenant. The man advises the officer he will leave and that he only wanted someone to come and talk with him about “life” at 10:37 a.m. on Sept. 22 in the 900 block of Nevada Way.
