Movie awards on tap at high school

Part educational experience and part show business, the second annual Boulder City Movie Awards will be presented at 7 p.m. April 3 in the theater at Boulder City High School.

The awards, which recognize outstanding achievements in all aspects of filmmaking, are the result of a 2012 class project for teacher Canaan Petersen, who teaches music and film studies as well as American history.

The movies are created through Petersen’s film course and Josh Fisher’s video production class. They will be judged by a panel of adults associated with the school and from the community.

Awards will be presented in the categories of best picture, best director, music video, cinematography, best sound, best effects, best editing, best screenplay and public service announcement.

Residents are invited to the awards ceremony.
