Auditions for the sixth annual BC’s Got Talent show will take place a month from Saturday as singers, dancers and other performers polish their skills with the hopes of making the cut for this year’s main event.
Auditions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon March 7 at the Elaine K. Smith Center, 700 Wyoming St.
Nearly 40 people auditioned for last year’s show; 18 made the cut. The contestants were divided into three categories: child, youth and adult. Hundreds of guests sat outside at the Boulder City Library Amphitheater to watch them perform.
A flag twirler, a ukulele player, a flutist, a pair of piano-playing brothers and a couple of friends singing a song from a Disney classic highlighted last year’s show.
Master of ceremonies Justin Keogh said the diversity in the performances is one reason BC’s Got Talent is the Friends of the Arts’ most popular event.
Keogh said a scheduling conflict has forced this year’s show to be held earlier than in years past. He’s hoping the earlier scheduling won’t reduce the number of auditioners for the show.
“I do have a concern that because it’s so early this year, we may be catching a few people off guard,” he said. “Last year’s (show) was probably the best ever. It’s just kept on getting better and better every year.”
Keogh said he also wants to do away with the misconception that BC’s Got Talent is only a kid’s singing show. He’s looking for more involvement from adults and encouraged them to audition.
BC’s Got Talent will run at 7 p.m. March 28 at the Boulder City Library Amphitheater. The Boulder Dam Credit Union will provide all cash prizes.
