The sun sparkling on Lake Mead as it rises will provide the backdrop for an Easter sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at Hemenway Park.
The 29th annual service is presented by the Boulder City Interfaith Lay Council. It is nondenominational and conducted by area residents.
“It’s just for the community to come together and celebrate the day. All are welcome,” said Kathy Whitman, a member of the lay council. “It’s a beautiful spot and a beautiful service.”
She said about 400 people — and sometimes a few bighorn sheep — traditionally attend the service.
“We print 400 programs and they disappear,” she said.
The service will include bagpipes, trumpeter Chuck Haraway, a special reading and meditation presented by Fran Haraway, a solo by Norma Barth, and other readings.
Whitman said the service usually lasts less than an hour.
There is no cost to attend, but a free-will offering is taken. Proceeds will be donated to Emergency Aid of Boulder City and Lend A Hand.
Those attending are encouraged to dress warmly and bring their own chair.
Complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and doughnuts will be provided by Winchell’s Donuts of Boulder City.
