Three Grace Christian students claim awards at math olympics

Three students from Grace Christian Academy received awards after participating in the Association of Christian Schools International’s Rocky Mountain math olympics March 13.

Those honored were Ty Lehr, medal for scoring above 85 percent, fourth-grade reasoning category; Jamie Jeffries, fifth place, third-grade computation category; and Alehssia Reinhart, third-place ribbon and medal for scoring above 85 percent, third-grade reasoning.

The students competed in two categories: computation and reasoning. The computation event consisted of four timed tests of a variety of math problems. The reasoning also featured four timed tests, but with a variety of word problems. The top five students in each category for each grade received a ribbon. Students who scored above 85 percent on the tests were given a medal.

Students who scored in the top 25 percent at the Math by Mail competition in December were eligible to compete at the regional level.
