In the midst of a pandemic, social distancing and distance learning, Boulder City High School found a way to celebrate Homecoming 2020 and crown the court by way of a virtual pep rally.

The pep rally was streamed on YouTube, Facebook Live and other social media sites on Friday, Nov. 20, according to BCHS Principal Amy Wagner. The event featured members of the court and the king and queen participating in games at home.

“We always do games or dances for homecoming,” said Wagner. “This time we just did it virtually.”

The virtual pep rally also included a video of someone dressed in a shark costume running around the empty school. Students guessed who it was, and the winner received a gift card. Additionally, the new teachers participated in the pep rally by each of them singing a portion of the high school fight song.

Wagner said the event went so well she plans to have more virtual pep rallies while the school is doing distance learning.

When walking into the Boulder City High School cafeteria last Wednesday, it was almost like stepping back in time nearly 100 years.

Giving back

Saturday evening, Calvary Chapel Boulder City hosted a back-to-school event at Veterans Memorial Park. There, free school supplies and clothing were given out to families. In addition, toys were raffled off, there were free hamburgers, live music and an appearance by the Boulder City Fire Department. Pastor Jason King said he was very happy with the turnout and wished to thank all of those who donated to the event.

It appears that everyone is on the same page in that they want to see motels in Boulder City retain their historic charm.

It was Christmas in July Saturday as those seeking a little holiday cheer filled the basement of the Masonic Temple. The Boulder City Community Club and the Boulder City History and Arts Foundation co-hosted the event, which included a visit from Santa and the Grinch and Christmas music by Patrick Mahoney and Maire Egan on fiddle. More than a dozen gift baskets were donated by local residents and merchants as raffle prizes, while the food was also free thanks to donations. Proceeds were split between to the two hosting organizations.
