Free document shredding today
The Boulder City Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a document shredding day from 9 a.m. to noon today in the parking lot of Albertsons, 1008 Nevada Highway. There is no cost to have papers shredded.
For those who bring more than 10 boxes of papers to shred, the boxes will be transferred to a secured warehouse for shredding.
The event is sponsored by Albertsons and American Shredding.
Weekend events to benefit for Emergency Aid
Two events this weekend will benefit Emergency Aid of Boulder City.
On Friday, during the varsity football team’s game against Moapa Valley, fans are asked to bring a bag or box of nonperishable items to help stock the pantry at Emergency Aid of Boulder City. Items such as peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, canned ravioli or spaghetti and meatballs, tuna, chicken, beef stew and toilet paper are needed. A flatbed trailer will be parked near the entrance to the football field.
The pantry is always in need of recycled grocery bags, according to an organization representative.
For those who would like to make a monetary donation, a volunteer from the organization will be at the trailer.
On Saturday, The Homestead at Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive, is hosting a pancake breakfast, with proceeds benefiting Emergency Aid. The breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. A 99 cent and nonperishable food item donation are being asked.
The pantry provides food to more than 1,200 people a month.

Saturday Color Dash to aid St. Jude’s
St. Jude’s Ranch for Children will host is first 5K Color Dash on Saturday.
Participants will be given a white T-shirt at the start of the run and at each kilometer they will add different colors. At the end of the run there will be a color explosion where participants will throw their color packets into the air, allowing everyone to be multicolored together.
Packet pick up begins at 9 a.m. and the race is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. The color explosion is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
The race begins and ends at St. Jude’s, 100 St. Jude’s St.
Tickets are $40 each, with discounts available for groups.
Fifty percent of each ticket sold for this charity event will benefit the ranch.

Art guild changes date of drawing session
The long pose live model session presented by Boulder City Art Guild and Lee Lanier has been changed to Sunday.
The session will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Elaine K. Smith Building, 700 Wyoming St.
A minimum of four people must sign up for the session to be held. Reservations are required and must be made by today. For reservations email bcartguild@gmail.com.
The guild is planning monthly plein air sessions for painters and drawers. They will be begin around 8 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month at locations throughout Boulder City. Participants will regroup at 10 a.m. for a show-and-tell.
A fall kickoff will be held Oct. 24 in front of City Hall, 401 California Ave.

Stories, crafts fill library’s schedule of activities
Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:
n Crazy 8s math club, 3:30 p.m. today in the community room. For those age 5-8. Reservations requested.
n Preschool story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For children 3-5 and their caregivers.
n Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months.
n Teen time, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Those 12 and older are invited to come play games, work on homework or just hang out.
n Library board of trustees, 7 p.m. Wednesday in the board room.
n Teen and adult craft, 1 p.m. Oct. 24 in the community room. Participants will make a new-sew book purse. Reservations and a $5 refundable deposit are required by 8 p.m. Oct. 22.

Lake Mead cleanup, ranger talks scheduled
Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events in the coming weeks. These include:
n Willow Beach cleanup and eco-dive, Saturday. The National Park Service is joining with Forever Resorts to sponsor the beach cleanup, paddle craft and eco-dive. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the cleanup event and dive brief starting at 9:30 a.m. Lunch and a prize drawing will be provided by Forever Resorts. Advance registration required. Retired public employees to hear Janison
Members of the Boulder City Chapter of the Retired Public Employees of Nevada will gather for their monthly meeting at 11 a.m. Oct. 22 at The Homestead of Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive. The guest speaker will be meteorologist Kevin Janison.
A no-host lunch is held after the meeting at a local restaurant.

Senior center hosting family Halloween event
The Senior Center of Boulder City is holding a Halloween Family Fun Night 3-7 p.m. Oct. 23 at the center, 813 Arizona St.
The festivities will include a costume contest, games, prizes, music and dancing. Pizza and a drink will be available for $1.25.

Free tour of Security Site scheduled
A tour of the Nevada National Security Site, formerly known as the Atomic Test Site, has been scheduled for Nov. 17 by the local Romeo group.
The tour, which is booked until May 2016 for individuals, is limited to 50 residents.
A private chartered bus will take the group from the Atomic Test Museum, 755 E. Flamingo Blvd., to the site, where they will go on a guided tour. Those attending must be at the museum by 7:25 a.m. and the bus will return around 4 p.m.
There is no cost to participate. Those taking the tour must bring their own lunch and drinks, and shorts, sandals, cellphones, cameras, radioactive measuring devices, telescopes, binoculars and computers are prohibited.
Reservations will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each visitor to the security site must undergo a background check.
