Caucus topic for Democratic club members

The Boulder City Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Boulder City Library 701 Adams Blvd. The Nevada presidential caucus process and voter registration will be discussed.

All interested people are welcome to attend.

Library schedules variety of activities, events

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:

Science Exploration Club: 3:30 p.m. Friday in the community room. Explore science through stories, experiments and crafts. For children 3-6 and their caregivers.

Movie: 6 p.m. Friday in the community room. “Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.

Teen and adult craft: 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room. Quick T-shirt crafts part two will be presented. For those 12 and older. Reservations and a $5 refundable deposit are required.

Preschool story time: 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For children 3-5.

Toddler story time: 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months.

Library board of trustees meeting: 7 p.m. Wednesday in the board room.

Recipe exchange, small bites: 1 p.m. Aug. 22 in the community room. Bring in a small sample to share and copies of your recipe. Reservations required by 8:30 p.m. Aug. 20. For those 12 and older. Turn in a copy of your recipe at the reference desk before noon Aug. 21 and staff will make copies.

Note, the library will be closed Sundays through Labor Day.

Myriad special events on tap at Lake Mead

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming weeks. These include:

Sunset yoga: Saturday. Join a ranger at the Rocky Point Overlook for yoga and light stretching. Bring water and a yoga mat. Reservations required.

Ranger chat, “Public Lands: Treasures of Southern Nevada”: 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center.

Ranger library program, “National Park Treasure Hunt”: Wednesday. Join rangers from the recreation area at various library to learn about America’s national parks. At 11 a.m. they will be at the North Las Vegas Library, 2250 Las Vegas Blvd., North Las Vegas; at 1 p.m. they will be at the Alexander Library, 1755 W. Alexander Road, North Las Vegas; and at 3 p.m. they will be at Aliante Library, 2400 Deer Springs Way, North Las Vegas.

Haircut, photo special event to benefit needy

Serenity Salon and Spa and Vegas Valley Photography are co-sponsoring a back to school special offering a free haircut and photo shoot for donations of school supplies and nonperishable foods to benefit Emergency Aid of Boulder City.

Haircuts will be offered from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the salon, 100 S. Elm St., with photos offered from 1-6 p.m.

Appointments are appreciated but walk-ins are welcome.

Community blood drive set for Sept. 17

A blood drive to benefit the Boulder City community and hospital will be held from 1-7 p.m. Sept. 17 in the gymnasium at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 916 Fifth St.

Writers group meets every Thursday at library

The Boulder City Writers Group meets at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday in the community room at Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

Writers of all levels are welcome to attend to learn more about writing and receive feedback on their work.

Membership is free.
