Historic preservation efforts topic for Democrats’ speaker
The Boulder City Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. Chris Frausto, a Boulder City preservationist and cultural historian, will discuss preservation efforts in the city.

Art Guild exhibit continues through Friday at library
The Boulder City Art Guild is exhibiting works by 20 local guild members in the community room at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.
The exhibit continues through Friday and can be viewed during library hours.
Boulder City Art Guild is a nonprofit, all-volunteer artists organization with an office and gallery in the Boulder Dam Hotel.
Programs, events for people of all ages on tap at library
Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:
n Odd Squad reading camp, 10 a.m. today in the community room. Join Vegas PBS for the four-week camp. For ages 5-9.
n Movie, 2 p.m. today in the community room. “The Searchers” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.
n Teen concert, 6 p.m. today in the amphitheater. Scarlet will perform live.
n Science Exploration Club, 3 p.m. Friday in the community room. Explore science through stories, experiments and crafts. For children 3-6.
n Anime club, 3 p.m. Friday in the board room. For those in junior high school.
n Movie, 6 p.m. today in the community room. “Silverado” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.
n Writing workshop, 10 a.m. Monday. The four-week session is for children ages 8-16. Participants will create a variety of writing types including short story, drama, poetry, memoir and graphic novel. Space is limited. Advance registration required.
n Teen advisory group, noon Monday in the community room. For those 12-18. Teens are asked to have a say in the programs, materials and projects in the library’s youth services department.
n Preschool story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For children 3-5.
n Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months and their caregivers.
n Hero club, 3 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Getting the hero look is theme of the session. For those 4-11 years old. Learn how to be a hero in the four-week club. Register in the youth department.
n Hampstead Stage presents “Hercules and the Heroes,” 6 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Explore Greek mythology with the theatrical tale.
Note, the library will be closed Sundays through Labor Day.

Concert, night hikes planned at Lake Mead
Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events in the coming weeks. These include:
n Evening program, 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center amphitheater. Music under the stars will feature a performance by vocalist Dominque Vazquez. The concert will have a blend of blues, classic rock and pop.
n Ranger chat: Outdoor Fun — A Child’s Nature Perspective, 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center. Participants will learn a variety of ways children can learn about the recreation area and get in touch with nature.
n Evening bat hike, Saturday. Join a ranger for a walk along the Historic Railroad Trail to explore bat myths. Participants need to bring a flashlight. Reservations are required.
n Desert Night Sky Lights, 8 p.m. Saturday at Nevada Telephone Cove. Join a ranger to learn about the night sky and how to find planets, major stars and constellations. Astronomer Edwin Anderson from Northern Arizona University will follow with a star party. Telescopes will be available. Call the Katherine Landing Ranger Station at 928-754-3272 for more information.

Hospital auxiliary seeks volunteers to work in gift shop
Volunteers are needed to work in Goldies’ Gift Shoppe and in long-term care at Boulder City Hospital.

Anew Women’s Network to take summer hiatus
Anew Women’s Network will not meet in July. Its next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 22 at the Boulder City Library.
Members are encourage to socialize during the summer months.
