Boulder City Library schedules variety of activities, events

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks.

These include:

n Teen movie, 5 p.m. today in the community room. “The Dark Knight” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.

n Movie, 10 p.m. Friday in the community room. “The Incredible Mr. Limpet” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.

n Writing workshop, 10 a.m. Monday. The four-week session is for children ages 8-16. Participants will create a variety of writing types including short story, drama, poetry, memoir and graphic novel. Space is limited. Advance registration required.

n Movie, 2 p.m. Monday in the community room. “Support Your Local Sheriff” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.

n Preschool story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the boardroom. For children 3-5 and their caregivers.

n Storyteller Jim Cogan, 1 p.m. Tuesday in the community room.

n Movie, 6 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. “The Mark of Zorro” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.

n Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the boardroom. For children younger than 36 months and their caregivers.

n Hero club, 3 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Hero training is theme of the session. For children 4-11 years old. Learn how to be a hero in the four-week club. Register in the youth department.

n Family story time, 6 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. There will be science, crafts, games, Legos and stories.

Note, the library will be closed Sundays through Labor Day.

Ice cream social on tap today at senior center

The Senior Center of Boulder City invites area residents to an ice cream social from 1:30-3:30 p.m. today at the center, 813 Arizona St.

There is no cost to attend, but donations are welcome.

The center’s board plans to have event such as the ice cream social to help people become familiar with the center and the services and activities available.

Historic preservation efforts topic for Democrats’ speaker

The Boulder City Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. July 9 at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. Chris Frausto, a Boulder City preservationist and cultural historian, will discuss preservation efforts in the city.

American Legion breakfast served Thursday mornings

All veterans and their families are invited to the American Legion’s varied menu breakfast from 6-8:30 a.m. Thursdays at the American Legion Hall, 508 California Way, between Boulder Bowl and Grace Christian Academy. There is no cost to attend, but donations are welcome.

Legionnaires and eligible veterans are invited to the American Legion meeting at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the hall.

VFW to raffle bicycle in memory of charter member

Veterans of Foreign Wars Cpl. Matthew A. Commons Memorial Post 36, will raffle off a Dynacraft Alpine Eagle 26-inch mountain bike in memory of post charter member Arthur Monetti.

The winning ticket will be drawn after the Fourth of July parade outside the multiuse building in Broadbent Park. The winner needn’t be present.

Art Guild exhibit continues through July 10 at library

The Boulder City Art Guild is exhibiting works by 20 local guild members in the community room at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

The exhibit continues through July 10 and can be viewed during library hours.

Boulder City Art Guild is a nonprofit, all-volunteer artists organization with an office and gallery in the Boulder Dam Hotel.

Writers group meets every Thursday at library

The Boulder City Writers Group meets from 7-8:20 p.m. each Thursday in the community room at Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

Writers of all levels are welcome to attend to learn more about writing and receive feedback on their work.
