Presentation will examine Southwest’s influence on artist
“Sky Sentinels” with Jana Ward will be presented at 6 tonight as part of the Third Thursday at the Museum series presented by the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum.
The program will be presented in the Segerblom Theatre inside the museum at Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.
Ward’s art uses repeating patterns depicting life in the Southwest. She will discuss the influences on her art, specifically the cultures and landscapes of Nevada and the Southwest.

Senior center to host one-day clean energy inventions exhibit
The Senior Center of Boulder City, at 813 Arizona St., will host a one-day exhibit, the Gallery of Clean Energy Inventions” by area resident Gary Vesperman.
The exhibit, open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, features information and images of 43 generators, 18 advanced self-powered electric vehicle innovations, 25 radioactivity neutralization methods, 22 space travel innovations, 10 technical solutions to water shortages and a torsion field school network.
There will also be 23 movie posters and 52 images from the Hubble Space Telescope.
Vesperman was a technical writer with 17 Silicon Valley computer companies and has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Admission is free.
Choirboys of Minnesota to perform at Grace Friday
The Land of Lakes Choirboys of Minnesota will present a concert of sacred and secular music at 7 p.m. Friday at Grace Community Church, 1150 Wyoming St.
The Land of Lakes Choirboys trains its members in music theory, sight-singing and ear training, and intense vocal studies. They join the choir at age 5 and continue until their voices change.
As they study music, choir members learn about leadership, appropriate behavior and traditional manners, according to a group statement. The group’s motto is, “Music, Respect and Honor.” The ensemble performs worldwide, presenting music by Bach, Schubert and Strauss along with Broadway tunes and folk songs.
There is no admission charge for the concert, but a free-will offering will be taken.
Boulder City Library schedules variety of activities, events
Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:
n Super Why reading camp, 10 a.m. today in the community room. Presented by Vegas PBS, aka KLVX-TV, Channel 10, for children, newborns to age 5.
n Movie, 10 a.m. Friday in the community room. “Father Goose” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.
n “I Survived” book club, 3:30 p.m. Friday in the board room. Participants are asked to read “I Survived: The Attacks of September 11th, 2001” by Lauren Tarshis before attending. The session will include a discussion, activity and craft related to the book.
n Teen and adult craft: Recycled T-shirt wreath, 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room. For those 12 and older. Reservations and a $5 refundable deposit required by today.
n Teen movie, 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room. “Into the Woods” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.
n Family sing-along movie, 6 p.m. Monday in the community room. “Frozen Sing-A-Long” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.
n Story time yoga, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For children 3 to 5 years old and their caregivers. The session will incorporate stories with music and yoga exercises.
n Movie, 5 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. “If I Stay” will be shown.
n Craft time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the community. Bring a craft to work on. Snacks and beverages are allowed.
n Hero Club, 3 p.m. Wednesday in the community. Learn how to be a hero in this four-week club. “Heroes Give Back” is title of the session. Sign up in the youth department or call the library for details.

Ranger chat, constellation tour on activity slate at Lake Mead
Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming weeks. These include:
n Ranger chat: Endangered species, 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Lake Mead Visitor Center. Learn about endangered species such as the peregrine falcon and Las Vegas bear poppy.
n Ranger chat: Night sky constellation tour, Saturday. Meet at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 8:30 p.m. Learn about the stars and some of the stories behind the stars. A sliver of moon will be visible. At 9 p.m. staff will start the star gazing through telescopes at the Las Vegas Bay Amphitheater. Reservations required.

Veterans of Foreign Wars to raffle bike in charter member’s memory
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cpl. Matthew A. Commons Memorial Post 36, will raffle off a Dynacraft Alpine Eagle 26-inch mountain bike in memory of post charter member Arthur Monetti.
The winning ticket will be drawn after the Fourth of July parade outside the multiuse building in Broadbent Park. The winner needn’t be present.

Library exhibiting artworks by 20 local art guild members
The Boulder City Art Guild is exhibiting works by 20 local guild members in the community room at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.
The exhibit continues through July 10 and can be viewed during library hours.
A reception for the artists, who come from Boulder City, Henderson and Las Vegas, will run from noon to 2 p.m. June 27. Ribbons will be awarded for the works judged to be most outstanding.
Light refreshments will be served.
Boulder City Art Guild is a nonprofit, all-volunteer artists organization with an office and gallery in the Boulder Dam Hotel.
Anew Women’s Network will take summer hiatus
Anew Women’s Network will not meet in June or July. Its next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 22 at the Boulder City Library.

American Legion breakfast served Thursday mornings
All veterans and their families are invited to the American Legion’s varied menu breakfast from 6-8:30 a.m. Thursdays at the American Legion Hall, 508 California Way, between Boulder Bowl and Grace Christian Academy.
There is no cost to attend, but donations are welcome.
