Lend A Hand will hold training for new volunteers Tuesday
Lend A Hand will hold a training class from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for people interested in volunteering for the nonprofit organization.

Philanthropic chapter’s sale will raise money for scholarships
Chapter AF of the Philanthropic Educational Organization will hold an estate/garage sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 499 Lake Merritt Lane.
Sale proceeds will benefit the group’s educational scholarship fund.
Chamber’s monthly Wine Walk will have a 1980s theme
The Best Dam Wine Walk presented by the Chamber of Commerce continues its monthly walks from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Theme for this walk is the 1980s.
Stop by the Chamber of Commerce at 465 Nevada Way first to get a glass and map of participating locations.
Cost is $25 a person or $45 a couple.
Golf tourney a municipal course will benefit local schoolchildren
Puttin’ 4 the Kids Golf Tournament will be held Saturday at Boulder City Municipal Golf Course, 1 Clubhouse Drive.
It is presented by Jack’s Place and the Dan Leach Memorial Fund.
Registration at 6 a.m. starts on tournament day.
Tournament proceeds will help send children to before- and after-school activities through the city’s parks and recreation department.

Library schedules variety of activities, events
Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:
n Super Why reading camp, 10 a.m. today in the community room. Presented by Vegas PBS, aka KLVX-TV, Channel 10, for newborns to 5-year-olds.
n Anime club, 3 p.m. Friday in the boardroom. For children in junior high grades.
n Science Exploration Club, 3 p.m. Friday in the community room. Explore science through stories, experiments and crafts. For children 3-6.
n Movie, 6 p.m. Friday in the community room. “Jurassic Park” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.
n Teddy bear sleepover, 10 a.m. Monday in the community room. Bring your favorite stuffed animal to story time, leave it overnight and pick it up in the morning to see what they did. For children of all ages.
n Teen advisory group, noon Monday in the community room. Young people 12 to 18 are invited to attend and have a say in the programs, materials and projects in the library’s youth services department.
n Movie, 11 a.m. Tuesday in the community room. “Big Hero 6” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.
n Hero Club, 3 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Learn how to be a hero in this four-week club. “Heroes Know Their World” is this session’s title. Sign up in the youth department or call the library for details.
n Library board of trustees meeting, 7 p.m. Wednesday in the boardroom.

Myriad special events on tap at Lake Mead in weeks to come
Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming weeks. These include:
n Ranger chat: Park Invaders: Nonnative species, 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Lake Mead Visitor Center. Learn about nonnative species that have invaded the recreation area what scientists are doing to protect the land.
n Sunset yoga, Saturday. Join a ranger at Rocky Point Overlook for yoga. Designed for practitioners of all levels. Participants should bring a mat; reservations are required.

Southwest’s influence on artist topic of presentation at museum
“Sky Sentinels” with Jana Ward will be run at 6 p.m. June 18 as part of the Third Thursday at the Museum series presented by the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum.
The program will be presented in the Segerblom Theatre inside the museum at Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.
Ward’s art uses repeating patterns depicting life in the Southwest. She will discuss the influences on her art, specifically the cultures and landscapes of Nevada and the Southwest.
Light refreshments will be served after the program.

Choirboys of Minnesota to perform at Grace June 19
The Land of Lakes Choirboys of Minnesota will present a concert of sacred and secular music at 7 p.m. June 19 at Grace Community Church, 1150 Wyoming St.
The Land of Lakes Choirboys trains its members in music theory, sight-singing and ear training, and intense vocal studies. They join the choir at the age of 5 and continue until their voices change.
Besides their musical studies, choir members are taught about leadership, appropriate behavior and traditional manners, according to a group statement. Its motto is “Music, Respect and Honor.”
The ensemble performs for audiences around the world, presenting music by Bach, Schubert and Strauss along with Broadway tunes and folk songs.
There concert is free, but a free-will offering will be taken.
Senior center will host clean energy inventions exhibit
The Senior Center of Boulder City will host a one-day exhibit, the Gallery of Clean Energy Inventions,” by area resident Gary Vesperman.
The exhibit will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 18.
The exhibit features information and images of 43 generators, 18 advanced self-powered electric vehicle innovations, 25 radioactivity neutralization methods, 22 space travel innovations, 10 technical solutions to water shortages and a torsion field school network. There will also be 23 movie posters and 52 images from the Hubble Space Telescope.
Vesperman was a technical writer with 17 Silicon Valley computer companies and has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Admission is free. The senior center is at 813 Arizona St.
