Retired public employees

monthly meeting set for May 28

Members of the Boulder City Chapter, Retired Public Employees of Nevada, will gather at 11 a.m. May 28 for their monthly meeting. It will be held at The Homestead of Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive.

Guest speaker will be Ellise Hayden of Boulder City Hospital, who will speak about the geriatric psychology and acute rehabilitation units.

Additionally, there will updates about the Nevada Legislature.

Lend A Hand holding annual nonevent fundraiser

Lend a Hand is holding its annual nonevent event fundraiser, inviting area residents to stay at home in their pajamas and send in a donation. The fundraiser continues through the end of the month.

Donations can be submitted online at www.lendahandbouldercity.org or by sending a check to 400 Utah St., Boulder City, NV. 89005.

Library schedules variety of activities, events

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks.

These include:

n Library budget hearing, 7 p.m. today in the board room. The board of trustees meeting will follow.

n “I Survived” book club, 3:30 p.m. Friday in the board room. Participants are asked to read “I Survived: The Bombing of Pearl Harbor, 1941” by Lauren Tarshis before attending. The session will include a discussion, activity and craft related to the book.

n Movie, 6 p.m. Friday in the community room. “Sherlock Holmes” will be shown. Snacks and beverages are allowed.

n Preschool story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For children 3-5 and their caregivers.

n Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months and their caregivers.

n Teen time, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. For those 12 and older. Teens are invited to play games, work on homework or just socialize with each other.

Note, the library will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

Democrats look forward to spring 2016 with party

Boulder City Democratic Club will hold a Spring Forward to 2016 party today at Chilly Jilly’z, 1680 Nevada Highway. Annette Magnus and Blanca Gamez of Battle Born Progress will be there to speak about their experiences at the Legislature and future endeavors.

Appetizers and soft drinks will be served, and there will be a cash bar.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.

Anew network for women to meet Saturday

Anew Women’s Network will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday at Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

The group offers support and fellowship for widows.

Lake Mead rangers to discuss nonnative species

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming weeks. These include:

n Ranger chat: Park Invaders: Nonnative species, 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Lake Mead Visitor Center. Learn how nonnative species invaded the park and what rangers are doing to protect the national recreation area.

Community blood drive scheduled for May 28

A blood drive for the Boulder City community and hospital will be held from 1-7 p.m. May 28 in the gymnasium at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 916 Fifth St.

Republican Women to hear police chief, council candidate

Boulder City Republican Women’s club will have its monthly luncheon meeting today in the banquet room at the Railroad Pass, 2800 Nevada Highway, Henderson.

Doors will open at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m.

Guest speaker for the day will be Boulder City Police Chief Bill Conger. Additionally, Boulder City Council candidate Linda Graham will speak.

Shopping trip to Henderson scheduled for Wednesday

Lend A Hand has partnered with Silver Rider to provide rides to Henderson for its clients.

The two-hour shopping trip will be in the morning, with rides offered for a donation.

On Wednesday, the bus will travel to Hobby Lobby, Target and other stores in that area.

High school alumni to meet for lunch today

The monthly Boulder City High School alumni luncheon will be held at noon today at The Restaurant in the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.

Graduates who have already held their 50th reunion celebrations are invited to attend.

Hospital auxiliary seeks volunteers for gift shop, long-term care

Volunteers are needed to work in Goldies’ Gift Shoppe and in long-term care at Boulder City Hospital.
