Retired Public Employees’ speaker will discuss Medicare fraud
The Boulder City chapter of the Retired Public Employees of Nevada will hold its monthly membership meeting at 11 a.m. today at The Homestead of Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive.
Guest speaker Lori Powers of Nevada Senior Medicare Patrol will discuss how to protect yourself from Medicare fraud. An update on the state Legislature is also planned.

The Boulder City Community Club will install new officers during its monthly luncheon meeting at 12:30 p.m. today in The Spillway downstairs at the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.

Anew Women’s Network will meet Saturday at library
Anew Women’s Network will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday at Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. The group is for women whose husbands have died. It offers information and fellowship.

Lend A Hand, Silver Rider offering shopping trip to Henderson
Lend A Hand has partnered with Silver Rider to provide rides to Henderson for its clients twice a month on Wednesdays.
The two-hour shopping trips will be in the morning, with rides offered for a donation. The second trip of this month is scheduled for Wednesday, with the bus traveling to Jo-Ann fabric and craft store, Bed Bath &Beyond and Costco.

Library schedules variety of activities, events
Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:
n “I Survived” book club, 3:30 p.m. Friday in the boardroom. Participants are asked to read “I Survived: The Sinking of the Titanic” by Lauren Tarshis before attending. The session, for readers 6-11 years old, will include a discussion, activity and craft related to the book.
n Junior Ranger Day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Library staff will join the event at Boulder Beach picnic area at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Participation is free.
n Preschool story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the boardroom. For children 3-5 and their caregivers.
n Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the boardroom. For children younger than 36 months and their caregivers.
n Teen time, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. For those 12 and older. Teens are invited to play games, work on homework or socialize with one another.

VFW post to raffle bicycle in memory of charter member
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cpl. Matthew A. Commons Memorial Post 36, will raffle off a Dynacraft Alpine Eagle 26-inch mountain bike in memory of post charter member Arthur Monetti.
The winning ticket will be drawn after the Fourth of July parade outside the multiuse building in Broadbent Park. The winner does not have to be present.

Daughters will hold flag retirement ceremony May 2
The Valley of Fire chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will present its 23rd annual unserviceable flag retirement ceremony at 10 a.m. May 2 at the Southern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd.
The ceremony is held to properly dispose of flags that are beyond repair.
Participants will include American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Women Veterans of Nevada, Sons of the American Revolution, Wounded Warriors, Honor Flight of Southern Nevada, Scottish American Military Society, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Children of the American Revolution Rancho High School Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps and singers from the Green Valley High School Madrigals.
Members of Boy Scout Troop 7 from Boulder City are collecting old and tattered flags for the ceremony. Flags can be dropped off at the American Legion hall, 508 California Ave. The Scouts will pick the flags up at people’s homes. There is no charge for this service, but donations are welcome.

Rose care topic for guest speaker
at meeting of garden club
The Boulder City Garden Club will meet at 6:45 p.m. May 6 at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.
Guest speaker Marie Kaplan, a consulting rosarian and Master Gardener, will talk about “Growing Roses in Southern Nevada, Part 2.” She will focus on proper fertilization and rose diseases.

Support group for the grieving will meet at senior center
The Senior Center of Boulder City is offering a Surviving Grief support group that meets from 1-2:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the center, 813 Arizona St. The group aims to help people struggling with a loss of any kind. The Rev. Sandy Johnson of Boulder City United Methodist Fellowship leads the group.

Emergency Aid needs volunteers to help with operations
Emergency Aid of Boulder City, a nonprofit organization that assists residents of Boulder City and those who travel through the community, needs volunteers to assist with its operations.
Emergency Aid operates a food pantry and provides financial assistance to those in the community who are in need. It is open from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at the old Los Angeles Water and Power Building, 600 Nevada Way.
