Garden club to learn about museum’s hollyhock project
The newly formed Boulder City Garden Club will meet at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. Guest speaker will be Patty Sullivan of the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum 31ers Educational Outreach. She will discuss their heirloom hollyhock project.

Red Mountain Choir to begin rehearsals for spring concert
Red Mountain Choir will hold rehearsals for its spring concert, “Masquerade,” from 7-9 p.m. every Thursday starting Feb. 5. Rehearsals will be held at the Elaine K. Smith Center, 700 Wyoming St.
The choir will perform April 17 and 18.
Anyone 15 and older who enjoys singing is welcome to participate.

Grace academy annual kindergarten open house set for Feb. 5
Grace Christian Academy will hold its annual kindergarten open house from 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 5. Families with children who will start kindergarten in August are invited to visit the classrooms, tour the campus, meet the kindergarten teacher, review the curriculum and have questions answered.
The academy is at 512 California Ave. It is a ministry of Grace Community Church and a member of the Association of Christian Schools International.
In addition to traditional curriculum, the school offers specialty classes such as art, vocal music, music theory, laboratory science, technology and physical education. iPad technology is integrated for students in all grades.

Library schedules variety of activities, events
Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:
n Lego challenge, 3:30 p.m. today in the community room. The session is designed for those 6 and older.
n Recipe exchange: Healthy remakes of comfort food, 2 p.m. Saturday. Bring in a small sample to share and copies of your recipe. The staff will make copies of recipes brought to the reference desk before noon Saturday. Reservations and a $5 refundable deposit required by 8:30 tonight.
n Preschool story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For children 3-5 and their caregivers.
n Movie, 6 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. “Mr. &Mrs. Smith” will be shown. Snacks and drinks are permitted and you can bring your own chairs and blankets.
n Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months.
n Yu-Gi-Oh!, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the board room. This will be an informational meeting to see if there is enough interest to form a club.
n Craft, book wreath, 1 p.m. Feb. 7. For teens 12 and older and adults. Reservations and a $5 refundable deposit are required by 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Myriad special events on tap at Lake Mead
Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming weeks. These include:
n Majestic Canyon hike, Saturday. The moderate hike will travel about 2.5 miles with an elevation gain of 300 feet along the base of the River Mountains. Reservations are required.
n Ranger program, “Park Invaders: Nonnative Species,” 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center. Park rangers will share information about nonnative species that have invaded the recreation area and what scientists are doing to keep them from overwhelming the park.

Author to be Republican Women’s guest speaker
Boulder City Republican Women will hold its monthly meeting Feb. 19 at Railroad Pass, 2800 S. Boulder Highway. The session will begin at 11 a.m., with lunch served at 11:45.
Guest speaker will be noted author Loren Spivack of Massachusetts.

New support group for those in grief meets at senior center
The Senior Center of Boulder City is offering a new Surviving Grief support group that will meet from 1-2:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the center, 813 Arizona St.
The group is designed to help those struggling with a loss of any kind. The Rev. Sandy Johnson of Boulder City United Methodist Fellowship is leading the group.

Volunteers are needed to work in Goldies’ Gift Shoppe and in long-term care at Boulder City Hospital.

American Legion breakfast served Thursday mornings
All veterans and their families are invited to the American Legion’s varied menu breakfast from 6-8:30 a.m. Thursdays at the American Legion Hall, 508 California Way, between Boulder Bowl and Grace Christian Academy. There is no cost to attend, but donations are welcome.
Legionnaires and eligible veterans are invited to the American Legion meeting at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the hall.
