Honor Flight to receive proceeds from pancake breakfast
A pancake breakfast will help raise funds for Honor Flight Southern Nevada. From 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Applebee’s at 820 E. Warm Springs Road, Las Vegas, will donate $5 for every breakfast sold.
For $10, the restaurant will serve a meal including pancakes, eggs, sausage and a beverage.
Additionally, donations will be accepted.
Honor Flight provides all-expense-paid trips for World War II and other veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials in their honor. The next trip is scheduled Oct. 14-16.

Art guild plans ‘Patio’ special show, demonstrations
Boulder City Art Guild will present Art on the Patio, a special show and sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 1 and 2 on the patio of the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.
The day also will include art demonstrations, entertainment and refreshments.
More than a dozen artists are expected to showcase their works at the event.

Library sets Lego challenge, staff development day
Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., will be closed Friday for staff development.

Lake Mead to mark Public Lands Day
Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming week. These include:
■ National Public Lands Day, Saturday. Entrance fees to the recreation area will be waived; however, fees for camping, lake use and concessions still apply.
■ Ranger program: “Starry, Starry Night Hike,” Saturday. Join a ranger and learn about the night skies of the recreation area while strolling along the Historic Railroad Trail. Call for details.
■ National Public Lands Day, Saturday. The recreation area is hosting a litter cleanup day and volunteers are needed to clean an area of the park that was heavily used during the summer. Contra dance set for Saturday evening
The Southern Nevada Old Time Contra Dancers will host a dance from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday in the old Los Angeles Water and Power Building, 600 Nevada Way. Beginner’s lessons are offered during the first 30 minutes.
A donation of $5 for members, students, first-time visitors and active military personnel and $10 for nonmembers is being asked.

Rotary club will present evening of wine, painting
Rotary Club of Boulder City will present A Wine and Canvas Evening on Nov. 1 at the Senior Center of Boulder City, 813 Arizona St.
The event, scheduled to start at 6 p.m., will provide participants the opportunity to paint a picture while enjoying wine, appetizers and fellowship. All supplies will be provided.
The cost is $50 per person or $90 a couple.

Railway museum plans evening Soul Train ride for October
The Soul Train is coming to the Southern Nevada Railway Museum.
On Oct. 1, the museum will host a special evening train ride for adults featuring music, snacks and soft drinks. DJ Queen B will be onboard the train playing oldies from the 1960s through the ’90s.
Boarding will begin at 5:15 p.m. and the two-hour trip will depart the museum at 5:30.
Tickets are $25 now through Sept. 29, and $30 if purchased Sept. 30 or Oct. 1. Tickets are nonrefundable.
The railway museum is at 600 Yucca St.
