AAUW to host wine, chocolate tasting event Saturday night
The American Association of University Women will hold an evening of wine and chocolate tasting Saturday. Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. on the patio of the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.
Tickets are $10 each and include all the wine you can drink and all the chocolate you can eat.
Proceeds from the event benefit the association’s local scholarship fund.
Church beginning after-school program for young children
Boulder City United Methodist Church is offering a once-a-week after-school program, God’s Gathering Place, for elementary school age children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Each Thursday, starting today, children will meet from 2:45-5:30 p.m. to learn about God through crafts, music, games and Bible stories.
Staff will pick up students at school and walk them to the Multiuse Building in Broadbent Park. Snacks and homework help will be provided.

Presentation today will explain File of Life, Yellow Dot programs
Lend A Hand is will host an informational session on the File of Life and Yellow Dot programs at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.
Both programs offering life-saving resources, which are especially vital for local senior citizens.
Jim Kindel, battalion chief for the Boulder City Fire Department, will present the program.
Art guild schedules yard sale
Boulder City Art Guild will hold a fundraising yard sale for Friday and Saturday. The sale will begin at 8 a.m. both days at 809 Fifth St.
A variety of items will be sold, with proceeds benefiting the art guild’s activities.
In addition, guild members have created an exhibit, “The Old West,” at the Hoover Dam Lodge, which will remain on display through the end of the year. The exhibit features about 40 pieces of art.
A reception for the artists will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday. All interested people are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.
The resort is at 18000 U.S. Highway 93.
Additionally, guild artists are displaying autumn and winter themed pieces at their Art from the Heart exhibit at Boulder City Hospital. More than 30 pieces of work are on display.
A reception for the artists will be held from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 7 in the lobby of the hospital, 901 Adams Blvd. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend.
The work will remain on display through the end of the year. All pieces are for sale and can be purchased at the guild’s gallery.
Craft sessions, club meetings on tap at Boulder City Library
Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:
■ After School Math Adventure, 3:30 p.m. today in the community room. Vegas PBS sponsors the program for those in kindergarten through fifth grade.

■ Movie, 4 p.m. Monday in the community room. “The Jungle Book” will be shown.

■ Positive Action for Teens, 3 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. The nationally recognized program works to improve academics, behavior and character.

Lake Mead plans cleanup event, ranger chat
Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming week.
These include:
■ Ranger chat: “Outdoor Fun: A Child’s Nature Perspective” 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center, 10 Lakeshore Road. Discover a variety of ways children can learn about the recreation area and get in touch with nature.
■ National Public Lands Day, Sept. 24. The recreation area is hosting a litter cleanup day and volunteers are needed to clean an area of the park that was heavily used during the summer. Honor Flight to receive proceeds from breakfast
A pancake breakfast will help raise funds for Honor Flight Southern Nevada. From 8-10 a.m. Sept. 24, Applebee’s at 820 E. Warm Springs Road, Las Vegas, will donate $5 for every breakfast sold.
For $10, the restaurant will serve a meal including pancakes, eggs, sausage and a beverage.
Additionally, donations will be accepted.
Honor Flight provides all-expense paid trips for World War II and other veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials in their honor. The next trip is scheduled Oct. 14-16.

Rotary to present evening of wine, painting Nov. 1 at senior center
Rotary Club of Boulder City will present A Wine and Canvas Evening on Nov. 1 at the Senior Center of Boulder City, 813 Arizona St.
The event, scheduled to start at 6 p.m., will provide participants the opportunity to paint a picture while enjoying wine, appetizers and fellowship. All supplies will be provided.
The cost is $50 per person or $90 a couple.

Railway museum plans Soul Train ride
The Soul Train is coming to the Southern Nevada Railway Museum.
On Oct. 1, the museum will host a special evening train ride for adults featuring music, snacks and soft drinks. DJ Queen B will be onboard the train playing oldies from the 1960s through the ’90s.
Boarding will begin at 5:15 p.m. and the two-hour trip will depart the museum at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are $25 now through Sept. 29, and $30 if purchased Sept. 30 or Oct. 1. Tickets are nonrefundable.
The railway museum is at 600 Yucca St.

Community Club’s meetings resume with luncheon
Members of the Community Club will gather for a luncheon meeting at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Railroad Pass casino and hotel, 2800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.
It will be the club’s first meeting after a summer break and plans for the coming months will be discussed.
The luncheon is for members only.
