Methodist church hosting
special summer camp
Boulder City United Methodist Church will hold a special event in August for children who will be entering kindergarten through fifth grade. SonSpark Labs Camp will be from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 8-11 in the multiuse building, 1204 Sixth St.
During the camp, children will learn through games, science experiments, Bible stories and music.
A dinner and final presentation from the week is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 13.

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks:
■ After School Math Adventure, 10 a.m. today in the community room. Part of a four-week session for kindergartners through fifth-graders and their caregivers.
■ STEAM club, 3:30 p.m. today in the community room. Explore science, technology, engineering, art and math through stories, crafts and activities. For ages 6-11.
■ Lake Mead Wildlife, 1 p.m. in the community room. Join rangers from Lake Mead National Recreation Area to learn about its wildlife. For ages 6 and older.
■ Movie, 5:30 p.m. Friday in the community room. The 5th Wave will be shown.
■ Living with chronic illnesses, 10 a.m. Monday in the community room. Part of a six-week session for adults with a chronic disease and/or their caregiver. Call or stop by to register.
■ Movie, 10 a.m. Monday in the community room. The Good Dinosaur will be shown.
■ Anime club, 5 p.m. Monday in the board room. For those in junior high grades.
■ What is Mental Health and Who Needs It? at 7 p.m. Monday in the community room. Learn about mental illnesses, how to manage them, and what to do if you or someone you know experiences it.
■ Drop in story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For all ages.
■ Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months and their caregivers.
■ Positive Action for Teens, 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. WestCare will host a nationally recognized program for improving academic performance and behavior.
■ Keeping Kids Fit Club, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. The six-week program educates kids and caregivers about the importance of eating and living healthy.

Lake Mead to celebrate
World Ranger Day
Lake Mead National Recreation Area has special events in the coming week:
■ World Ranger Day celebration, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Join Lake Mead rangers at Red Rock National Conservation Areas visitor center to celebrate the efforts of rangers in Southern Nevada. For more information, call 702-515-5367.
■ Wildlife at Lake Mead, 1 p.m. Friday at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. Learn about the wildlife that calls Lake Mead National Recreation Area home; songs and crafts will be available.
■ Ranger chat: What Does a Park Ranger Do?, 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center, 10 Lakeshore Road. Learn what rangers do daily to keep the recreation area operating. Details about becoming a junior ranger will be available, as well as the chance to earn junior ranger badges for underwater explorer, paleontology, historic preservation and the night sky.

Lifelike paintings of wildlife
on display at guilds gallery
Artwork by Debra Wilson, which presents a study in Americana, animals and landscapes, is being featured this month in the Boulder City Art Guilds gallery inside the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.
Wilson began painting when she was 5 years old. In college she focused on commercial art.
Her lifelike images of wildlife on canvas in acrylic paints have garnered numerous awards.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
Additionally, members have art exhibited at Hoover Dam Lodge, which will remain on display through November, and at the Boulder City Hospital, which will be displayed through Aug. 31.
