Learn how to write songs at library

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has a number of activities planned for the coming weeks, including:

■ After-School Math Adventure, 10 a.m. today in the community room. Part of a four-week session for kindergarteners through fifth-graders and their caregivers.

■ Norman Foote songwriting workshop, 4:30 p.m. today in the community room. For those in kindergarten through fifth grade. Participants will learn how to write songs.

■ Norman Foote concert, 5:30 p.m. today in the community room. The singer-songwriter will perform his original songs.

■ Lego challenge, 3:30 p.m. Friday in the community room. The session is designed for those 6 and older.

■ Movie, 5:30 p.m. Friday in the community room. “Pan” will be shown.

■ Yoga with Leah B., 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room.

■ Living with chronic illnesses, 10 a.m. Monday in the community room. Part of a six-week session for adults with a chronic disease and/or their caregiver. Call or stop by to register.

■ Anime club, 5 p.m. Monday in the board room. For those in junior high grades.

■ What is Mental Health and Who Needs It?, 7 p.m. Monday in the community room. Learn about mental illnesses, how to prevent them and what to do if you or someone you know experiences them.

■ Drop-in story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For all ages.

■ Teen craft, 4 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. For those in junior high and older.

■ Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months and their caregivers.

■ Positive Action for Teens, 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. WestCare will host a nationally recognized program for improving academic performance and behavior.

■ Keeping Kids Fit Club, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. The six-week program educates kids and caregivers about the importance of eating and living healthy.

■ Family story time, 6 p.m. Wednesday in the community room.

Lake Mead rangers to lead hike, chat session

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming week, including:

■ Ranger hike, Animals of the Night, Friday. Join a ranger for a night hike along the Bluffs Trail at Las Vegas Bay. Learn about nocturnal animals and how they benefit from the darkness. Bring a flashlight. Reservations required.

■ Ranger chat: “Nature Is Listening,” 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center, 10 Lakeshore Road. Learn how human-caused sound can impact nature’s soundscape. There will be hands-on activities and a listening kiosk.

■ Story time with a ranger, 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. Share stories of the Mojave Desert; songs and crafts will be available.

Church hosting special camp for kids

Boulder City United Methodist Church will hold a special event in August for children who will be entering kindergarten through fifth grade in the fall. SonSpark Labs Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 8-11 in the multiuse building, 1204 Sixth St.

During the religious camp, children will learn through games, science experiments, Bible stories and music.

A dinner and final presentation from the week is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Aug. 13.
