High school movie awards tonight
Boulder City High School will present its fourth annual Boulder City Movie Awards at 7 tonight in the theater on campus.
The awards ceremony showcases the best student films with honors presented in categories such as best special effects, best editing, best actor and actress, best picture, best screenplay and best direction.
Admission is free.

Art guild to present drawing workshop
Boulder City Art Guild will present “Get the Lead Out,” a structured drawing workshop designed to get artists moving and thinking,” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. today and March 10 at its gallery inside the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.
Lynda Whitehair will teach the sessions. She taught for more than 40 years at high schools and community centers throughout Clark County, and is a colored pencil and pastel artist.
Participants must provide their own paper and art supplies such as pencils, colored pencils, watercolor pencils and charcoal. Whitehair will provide some pencils and supplies for specific activities.
A minimum of five people are needed to hold the class, which will have a maximum of 10 people.
Cost is $25 for the two-class workshop.

Emergency Aid hosting open house Saturday
Emergency Aid of Boulder City is holding an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at its facility, 600 Nevada Way.
Volunteers will be on hand to take guests on a tour of offices and pantry, and provide information about Emergency Aid and its services.
Additionally, there will be a silent auction to benefit the nonprofit organization.

AAUW to mark Women’s History Month
Members of the local branch of American Association of University Women will celebrate Women’s History Month during their meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.
During the session, women who have made contributions to American society to help other women have the quality of life and standard of living enjoyed today will be celebrated. Additionally, members will look back in time to how women obtained the right to vote.
Guest speaker will be Nancy Stiles, program chairwoman for the Nevada American Association of University Women’s state council and Carson City branch. She has more than 50 years of experience as an educator and educational leader.

Homestead opening new men’s memory care unit
The Homestead at Boulder City will host a grand opening celebration Tuesday for its new Joshua’s Way men’s memory care unit. The celebration is scheduled from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will include a dedication and ribbon cutting with Mayor Rod Woodbury.
Tours of the unit will be available or can be scheduled by appointment.

Calvary Chapel adds second Sunday service
Calvary Chapel Boulder City is adding a second Sunday morning service starting March 6. Services will be offered at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. at its location at 1000 Nevada Way, upstairs behind Nevada State Bank.
A children’s ministry will be available at both services.
Additionally, the church offers a 7 p.m. Wednesday midweek service, also with a children’s ministry, and a junior and senior high youth group, which meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

Christian Science lecture set for Sunday
The First Church of Christ, Scientist, will present a free lecture at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Senior Center of Boulder City, 813 Arizona St.
The featured speaker will be Josh Niles, a Christian Science practitioner and teacher, who will offer examples of the church’s healing through his own experiences in the military. Additionally, he will speak about some of the church’s philosophies and beliefs.

Democrats to elect new club officers
The Boulder City Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 10 at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.
During the session, new club officers will be elected and there will be a review of the Democratic presidential caucus held in Boulder City.
Additionally, members will discuss issues for the April 2 county party convention and the May 14-15 state party convention.

Lend A Hand schedules training for volunteers
Lend A Hand is seeking volunteers to help drive area senior citizens and disabled people to medical appointments locally and in the Las Vegas Valley. Additionally, volunteers are need to help the nonprofit’s clients stay in their homes by providing respite for caregivers, companionship or small tasks such as grocery shopping.
A training session for potential volunteers will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 15 at the office, 400 Utah St.

Rock, Roll &Stroll to benefit senior center
The Senior Center of Boulder City will present its inaugural Rock, Roll &Stroll, an event to benefit its Meals on Wheels program, March 12 at Veterans’ Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd.
Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the family-friendly event will feature people rocking in rocking chairs at Pratte Soccer Field, rolling in wheelchairs around the park’s pond, and strolling through the park on a designated path. For each activity, participants will have collected pledges to raise funds for the senior center’s Meals on Wheels program.
The event also will feature entertainment and food available for purchase. Those attending also are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and picnic baskets.

Episcopal church hosting prayer programs
St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church will offer soup and approaches to prayer on Fridays during Lent. The programs, which start at 5 p.m., continue through March 18.
A soup supper will follow each program.

Grace Community Church is now accepting donations for its annual Country Store.
Donations of clothing, hardware, furniture and household items will be accepted.

Genealogy group to help track ancestors
Clark County Genealogical Society will hold its free ancestor search day from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson.
During the event, experienced genealogists will work with people to help them learn about ancestors they may not have known about.

By reserving time, visitors can avoid any waiting and they will be able to provide some information to the researchers in advance to increase their chances of finding a long lost relative.
