PFLAG will meet Tuesday
PFLAG, formerly Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.
The group offers round-table discussions centered on education, advocacy and mutual support to discuss family issues with others who have experienced sexual orientation issues.
The Boulder City chapter, which is a pending member of the national organization, meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month at the library. Family unity and individual dignity are issues the group supports.
Those who attend are straight and gay.

Americans living in Norway to present program
The sons of Norway, Boulder City Desert Troll Lodge, will present a seminar on “Norway: Then and Now” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Multiuse Building, 1204 Sixth St.
The session will be preceded by a potluck dinner, which is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Guest speakers will be Alan and Alison Krill, Americans now living in Trondheim, Norway. They will speak about the cultural, academic and financial diversity between Norway and America in the past and currently.
Alan Krill was raised in Spokane, Wash., while Alison Krill was born and raised in Manhattan in New York. They met in the library at Yale University and then moved to Norway, where they have lived for the past 35 years, taking sabbatical years in the United States.
Alan Krill is a geology professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. They are living in Boulder City while on sabbatical. The Krills have five children and their youngest, Max, is a sophomore at Boulder City High School.
Their presentation will include a 20-minute slideshow and be followed by a question-and-answer session.
All interested people are welcome to attend. There is no charge.
Also, the lodge is making plans for its annual syttende mai (Seventeen of May) celebration in recognition of Norway’s constitution day. The festivities will include a parade at 4 p.m. and a picnic in Veterans Memorial Park near the splash park.
Democratic club to focus on caucus
Members of the Boulder City Democratic Club will gather at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., for their monthly meeting.
The session will include preparations for the Democratic presidential caucus, which will be held Feb. 20. A representative from the state party will provide training on the process.

Library sets crafts, story sessions
Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:
— STEAM club, 3:30 p.m. today in the community room. Explore science, technology, engineering, art and math through stories, crafts and activities. For those 6-11.
— Movie, 6 p.m. Friday in the community room. “Necessary Roughness” will be shown.
— Movie, 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room. “The Princess Bride” will be shown.
— Craft, 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room. Participants will learn to make various items with washi tape. Reservations and a $5 refundable deposit are required by 8:30 p.m. today (Feb. 4).
— Craft, 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the community room. Those 12 and older are welcome to the adult coloring session.
— Craft, 6 p.m. Monday in the community room. Those 12 and older are welcome to the adult coloring session.
— Drop-in story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For all ages.
— Anime club, 5 p.m. Tuesday in the board room. For those in junior high grades.
— Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months and their caregivers.
— Teen time, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Those 12 and older are invited to come play games, work on homework or just hang out.
— Family story time, 6 p.m. Wednesday in the community room.

Hike, cooking demonstration on tap at Lake Mead
Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming week. These include:
— Ranger program, “Camp Cooking,” 4 p.m. Saturday. Join a ranger at the Boulder Beach amphitheater to learn a variety of tips on cooking with a Dutch oven.
— Ranger chat: “The Mojave Desert: A Magical Land,” 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m Saturday and Sunday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center, 10 Lakeshore Road. Participants will learn about the animals and plants in the Mojave Desert.
— Ranger hike: “St. Thomas: A Town Revealed,” Feb. 12. Join a ranger to explore the remains of the small farming community that was eventually covered by Lake Mead. Reservations are required.

Congressional candidates to address club
Members of the Boulder City Republican Woman’s Club will gather for their monthly luncheon meeting Feb. 18 at Railroad Pass, 2800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.
Guest speakers will be several Republican candidates for the seat in Congress representing District 3, including Kerry Bowers, a retired Air Force officer; Danny Tarkanian, owner of an athletic facility; and Annette Teijeiro, a medical doctor.
Doors will open at 11 a.m. and the lunch meeting will begin at 11:45.

Blood drive planned for Feb. 18
A blood drive to benefit the Boulder City community and hospital will be held from 1-7 p.m. Feb. 18 in the gym at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 916 Fifth St.

Walking group meets at Veterans Memorial Park
Boulder City United Methodist Fellowship has a walking group that meets at 8 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Veterans Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd. The group walks 30 minutes.
Everyone is invited to come out and improve their health and make new friends.

Art guild changes date of painting session
The date of Boulder City Art Guild’s monthly long-pose life painting and drawing session has been changed for February. It will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 21 in Room 109 of the Elaine K. Smith Building, 700 Wyoming St.
A minimum of four artists must attend. Cost is $15 per person.
