Democratic club to host presidential caucus preview

Members of the Boulder City Democratic Club will meet at 6:30 tonight at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. Representatives from the state Democratic Party will present information about the presidential caucus process. The democratic caucus will be held Feb. 20. All interested people are welcome to attend.

Red Mountain to begin rehearsals for spring show

Red Mountain Choir will begin rehearsals for its spring concert at 7 tonight at the Elaine K. Smith Center, 700 Wyoming St. Rehearsals will be held every Thursday until the April 22-23 performance. This is a nonauditioned choir and all singers are welcome.

Retired public workers to meet today

The Boulder City Chapter of the Retired Public Employees of Nevada will have its monthly meeting at 11 a.m. today at The Homestead of Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive. Guest speaker will be Victoria Mason, executive director of the Senior Center of Boulder City. After the meeting, members will go to a local restaurant for a no-host lunch.

 

Adventure club to meet Saturday

Boulder City Adventures will hold a committee meeting from 4-6 p.m. Saturday at the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St. The group will review upcoming events it supports.

The social club supports outdoor-related events, services and products in the area. All interested people are welcome to attend.

Club to hear from head of county Republican Party

The Boulder City Republican Woman’s Club will meet Jan. 21 in the banquet room at the Railroad Pass hotel and casino, 2800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Guest speaker for the afternoon will be Ed Williams, chairman of Clark County Republican Party. Also speaking with by Andy Matthews, a candidate for Congress representing District 3, which includes Boulder City.

Doors will open at 11 a.m., with lunch served at 11:45 a.m.

Cost is $21 per person. Reservations are required and must be made by noon today.

Lend A Hand sets training class for volunteers

Lend A Hand will hold a training class for volunteers at 9 a.m. Tuesday at its office, 400 Utah St. Lend A Hand helps senior citizens, disabled and handicapped residents of Boulder City, driving them to appointments throughout the Las Vegas Valley as well as providing assistance, respite and companionship so they may remain in their homes.

Art guild offers abstract class

Boulder City Art Guild is offering an abstract water media class from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at the Elaine K. Smith Building, 700 Wyoming St. Jan Scheaffer, an award-winning artist, will teach the session. The class will focus on abstract paintings, but will also stress basic elements, principles, colors, values and good composition. Participants should bring their own painting supplies. A list is available at the art gallery in the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.

Cost for the three-hour session is $25, and there must be a minimum of four students.

Appreciation lunch planned by Community Club

Boulder City Community Club will hold its January appreciation luncheon for members Jan. 28 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club, 1501 Veterans Memorial Drive. The luncheon will begin at 12:30 p.m. Reservations are required.

Library to start book club, hosts story sessions

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include: 

Adult book club, 9 p.m. today in the community room. For those 18 and older. Participants will help organize how book clubs will be run at the library. 

STEAM club, 3:30 p.m. today in the community room. Explore science, technology, engineering, art and math through stories, crafts and activities. For those 6-11.

Science Exploration Club, 3:30 p.m. Friday in the community room. Explore science through stories, experiments and crafts. For children 3-6.

Movie, 6 p.m. Friday in community room. “Cool Runnings” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.

Drop in story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For all ages.

Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months and their caregivers.

Teen time, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Those 12 and older are invited to come play games, work on homework or just hang out.

Library board of trustees, 7 p.m. Wednesday in the board room.

Note: The library will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. day.

Program on coyotes, free admission offered at Lake Mead

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming week. These include:

Volunteer program: Native seed cleaning, 10 a.m. Saturday. Help the resource team prepare native seeds for future restoration projects. Cleaned seed will be planted throughout the park and will support native plant growth. Ranger program: “Coyotes: What You Should Know,” 4 p.m. Saturday at the Boulder Beach amphitheater. Participants will learn more about coyotes and why they should be observed from a distance.

Fee free day, Monday. Entrance fees will be waived at the recreation area in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. day. Fees for camping, lake use or use of concessions still apply.

Artists to display works at Hoover Dam Lodge

Boulder City Art Guild is joining with Hoover Dam Lodge to present the Southern Nevada Desert Flora and Fauna Art Exhibit. The show, scheduled through Feb. 29, will feature works by 16 Southern Nevada artists and members of the guild.

The hotel and casino is at 18000 U.S. Highway 93.
