Chamber of commerce gives out awards

A living game of Clue highlighted Saturday’s annual awards and installation presented by the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce at the Elaine K. Smith Center.

Before awards were presented for the best business, best nonprofit and outstanding service to the chamber and community, A Touch of Mystery presented “All’s Fair in Love and Music,” a musical-comedy murder mystery. Those attending were asked to solve the crime after interacting with the show’s cast of characters.

The more formal portion of the evening started with the introduction of this year’s board of directors.

Installed as the new officers for the 2016-17 year were Brina Marcus, chairman; Monica Preston, vice chairman; Sam Knudsen, treasurer; Denise Senko, immediate past chairman; Kelley Ferrence, Rich Loudin, Beth Carden, Kerry Ahearn and Julie McAnany, directors.

After they were voted into office, awards were presented. This year’s recipients are:

■ Business of the Year: Xtreme Clean

■ Nonprofit of the Year: Boulder City Hospital Auxiliary

■ Bert Hansen Business Person of the Year: Roger Shoaff

■ Eva McGarvey Memorial Award for outstanding service: Ruben Valdez

■ Alice Isenberg Community Achievement Award: Nancy Carlyle

■ Bob Sears Lifetime Achievement Award: Dave Buck

■ Goldie Begley Energizer Award: Yolanda Grouell

■ Youth Community Achievement Award: Boulder City High School cheerleaders

The traditional update about achievements made during the past year and announcement of goals for the coming year were deferred and will be available in the chamber’s next newsletter and on its website.
