Boulder City residents Gavin Smith and Arnold Spee have been eliminated during the early rounds of play in the World Series of Poker’s Main Event.
Smith bust on his first day of play at the Rio Convention Center while Spee was able to hold on until Tuesday before going home.
Smith, a World Series of Poker bracelet winner, had cashed five times in the $10,000 buy-in No-limit Texas Hold ’em World Championship five times, including $62,021 for finishing 96th out of 6,598 entries.
This year’s entries dropped 6,352 competing for a $59.8 million prize pool. This year’s winner will take home nearly $8.4 million.
Wednesday afternoon saw 2,306 players remaining, with 648 places paid.
Spee has cashed in the Main Event once, a $36,463 payday for grabbing 356th in 2010.
