Chandler, Strickland sit for last Council

Jack Johnson, Boulder City Review

It was a fairly uneventful last City Council meeting for Council members Linda Strickland and Travis Chandler on Tuesday.

The city was presented with a couple of awards for its financial reporting, the June 7 election results were read by the city clerk, new regulations for noncommercial signs were adopted, minor changes were made to the city’s building and fire codes, and the lease agreement between the city and SolBio Energy, which defaulted on a lease last year, was officially terminated.

The meeting lasted about two hours, and aside from the plaques presented to Strickland and Chandler thanking them for their service by Mayor Roger Tobler, one may not have known they were on their way out.

Where, oh where, is Chandler tonight?: Ending term filled with absences

By Jack Johnson, Boulder City Review

Those who have been wondering why Councilman Travis Chandler has missed the last three Council meetings will have to keep wondering.

“I just have more to my life than a part-time job here,” he said of the $933.57 per month elected position.

Though Chandler would not tell the Boulder City Review specifically why his seat has been empty for over a month, he said he has not been ill and is not boycotting the meetings.

Divided Council issues moratorium on signs: ACLU threatens action on ordinance

By Jack Johnson, Boulder City Review

City Council voted Tuesday to place a temporary moratorium on a city ordinance limiting the number of non-commercial signs that can be placed in residential zones after City Attorney Dave Olsen advised the ordinance was confusing and unconstitutional.

The section of Boulder City Code 11-24-9 that establishes a two-sign limit was lifted for now, which means that residents can place any number of signs in their yard. The signs, however, must comply with the rest of the ordinance which states that they can be no bigger than six square feet.

Five candidates vie for two seats: Incumbents not seeking re-election

By Jack Johnson, Boulder City Review

Five candidates are aiming for the seats being vacated by City Council members Linda Strickland and Travis Chandler, and will face off in an April 5 primary election.

Lynn Goya, a writer who ran unsuccessfully for state Assembly last November, is the most recent to file her intentions to run for City Council among the group of five challengers. She will join the other candidates on the April ballot, with final election results whittling the field down by one. The general election will take place on June 7.

Strickland, it was learned last week, will be running for mayor while Chandler has decided not to seek re-election.

Council future undecided for Strickland: No comment from Chandler this week

By Jack Johnson, Boulder City Review

Three people have announced their candidacy for the upcoming City Council race, but current Council members Linda Strickland and Travis Chandler, whose seats will be opening up in June, have not said whether they will run for re-election.

“I’m probably more inclined to not run, but I have some days when I feel inclined to try to make some positive changes,” Strickland said.

Chandler could not be reached by press time.

Opinion: Waiting for the first domino to fall

By Arnold M. Knightly, Knightly Grind

Next year is a big election cycle in Boulder City, but no one potentially involved has yet shown their hand on what they plan to do.

This is not like Las Vegas where candidates are falling all over themselves to declare their candiacy for Mayor Oscar Goodman’s seat.

Councilman: Boulder Creek unsaleable

By Travis Chandler, Special to Boulder City Review

Professor Milne urges us to vote No on Question 11, where among his reasons are “extremely erroneous figures being quoted”, and that Boulder Creek operationally generates $300,000 cash flow to help pay its bonds and loans.

Let’s test these assertions, and determine whether Bolder Creek really is the $15 million asset he claims, and not a colossal liability instead.

First, let’s agree that what anything is actually worth is its selling price, whatever someone will actually pay for it. Then let’s propose the following hypothetical terms of sale:
