Highway travelers from Las Vegas to Arizona had traffic backed up Monday in Boulder City from the Buchanan Boulevard intersection heading north past Veterans Memorial Drive.
More of the same is expected this weekend as New Year’s revelers make their way home Sunday and Monday, despite the fact that the state spent $15.9 million to widen U.S Highway 93 to four lanes through the Hemenway Valley.
The problem, however, is the left-turn signal on Nevada Highway at Buchanan. The four-way stop prevents a continuous flow of southbound highway traffic at the intersection.

The road-widening project through Hemenway Valley has reached the home stretch.
The widening is on schedule for completion Monday, Nov. 21, in time for the Thanksgiving Day weekend, the Nevada Department of Transportation said this week.
That is also the date tractor-trailers will return to the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 93 south of Buchanan Boulevard.

Numerous residents inundated city and state officials with phone calls about safety concerns when work began Aug. 25 on the $15.9 million project to widen the highway.
Most of the complaints focused on the lack of left-turn pockets onto major side streets through the work zone. City officials blame the Nevada Department of Transportation and its contractor on the project, Fisher Sand & Gravel, for not taking the safety concerns of local residents into consideration.

The Nevada Department of Transportation has scheduled an Aug. 4 public information meeting in Boulder City to discuss the pending improvement project on U.S. Highway 93 through Hemenway Valley.
Tony Lorenzi, a senior project manager for the department, said the meeting is taking place to keep everyone informed of the construction project, which could begin in August.
“Nothing has really changed plan-wise,” Lorenzi said. “We just felt it was important to keep everybody informed every step of the way so they’re not surprised by something.”
The meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 4, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the city Recreation Center, 900 Arizona St.

You know the old adage, something is better than nothing? When it comes to Boulder City’s desired truck band during an upcoming road construction project, the city ended up with something.
Transportation officials in Nevada, Arizona and the federal government have reached an agreement to restrict some truck traffic through Boulder City during upcoming road-widening construction on U

State Sen. Joe Hardy fought for the Boulder City Bypass issue in Carson City for eight years before finally squeezing out enough votes to change state law that will allow a toll road funded by a private-public partnership.
Now it’s time for the private investors to deliver more than promises, he said.
“I’ve had people approach me that they want to either pay for the whole thing or be involved with the payment of the whole thing,” said Hardy, who lives in Boulder City. “Now we’ll find out if they’re really serious about this.”

The Boulder City Bypass took a big step forward Tuesday night with the state Senate passing a bill directing the state Transportation Department to establish a public-private partnership to finance a toll road around the city.
Senate Bill 214, authored by Sen. Joe Hardy of Boulder City, passed by a vote of 19-2.
The bill will now move to the Assembly where it will likely be referred to the Assembly Transportation Committee, according to a Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman.

Two bills that would allow toll roads in Nevada were passed out of the Senate Transportation Committee by a unanimous vote on Friday, setting the stage for possible Senate votes next week.
However, a state transportation official said that if the Senate does not vote on the measure by Tuesday, April 26, the bills will die.

Some Boulder City residents at an April 7 meeting held by state transportation officials expressed worry that a planned widening of U.S. Highway 93 won’t ease traffic snarls in their city.
Nevada Department of Transportation officials spent the evening showing diagrams of the project, which is scheduled to start this summer, and answering questions from skeptical locals who gathered in the first-floor lobby of the College of Southern Nevada building in Boulder City.
