Plaza to be renamed for Ferrence

The City Council approved a resolution Tuesday renaming the plaza adjacent to the Boulder Dam Credit Union and the Recreation Department as Bill Ferrence Plaza.

The downtown section — which sits on either side of Arizona Street and includes wide sidewalks, landscaped medians and parking areas — was formerly named Credit Union Plaza.

A celebration of a wonderful life: Nearly 1,000 people share memories of the life of longtime Boulder Dam Credit Union manager Bill Ferrence

On Saturday at Bill Ferrence’s celebration of life event, guests arriving at the Boulder Dam Hotel where given a sheet of paper with a timeline of his life’s major events: graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1965, moving to Boulder City in 1974, children and grandchildren’s births, etc.

It also included the quote, “Today, the genial, well known and liked postmaster … this man, who outwardly almost exudes generosity, kindness, humor and community spirit …”

A Boulder City institution passes: Bill Ferrence, 1943-2010

William G. “Bill” Ferrence, Jr., born in Dubois, Penn., on July 15, 1943, and longtime resident of Boulder City, died of complications from cancer on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 12:50 p.m. at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas. He was 67.

Bill was survived by his wife of 44 years, Cheryl (nee Hopson) Ferrence; sons Will (Kelley) Ferrence, and Jim (Christy) Ferrence; grandchildren, Billy, Carmela, Jack and Giacomo; and sisters Mary (Jerry) Duciome, and Roseanne (Roger) Shoaff, all of whom reside in Southern Nevada.

Bill Ferrence, longtime credit union manager, dies


William G. Ferrence died Sunday afternoon after a long illness, the Boulder Dam Credit Union confirmed this morning.

Ferrence, who went by the name Bill, was manager of the credit union for nearly 36 years. Funeral arrangements are pending. He was 67 years old.
