Eagles baseball season ends on throwing error

The Boulder City baseball dreams of winning its second-straight league title and returning to state ended with a errant through to second that sent home the winning run.

Upstart Moapa Valley (10-20) beat the defending 3A Southern League champion Eagles 6-5 in eight inning. It was the second time in two days the Boulder City had lost to Moapa Valley, and three out of the last four meeting.

All three loses came on the Eagles’ home field.

Junior Tanner Howell scored on senior Thomas Shelley’s sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth to give Boulder City a 5-4 lead.

However, after tying the game, Moapa Valley had runners at first and third with one out when an errant throw past the second baseman on a steal attempt brought home the winning run.

Boulder City, which has seven seniors, finished the season 16-12.
