BC wins two state relay titles at 3A track championships

Alone, members of the boys and girls track teams did not fair too well at the 3A state championships Friday and Saturday in Reno.

But when a few individuals united on a pair of relay teams was Boulder City able to win championships.

The Eagles 4×200-meter relay team captured the state championship in 1 minute, 34 seconds in a race that saw 1 second between Boulder City and the fourth place finisher.

The team comprised of senior Efran Sanchez, juniors Billy Viera and Gary Ortiz, and sophomore Xavier Steel.

The Lady Eagles 4×100 relay team won the state title 56.26 seconds. The team was anchored by senior Zoe Dodd and included junior Kirsten Rockenfeller, sophomore Kaylee Domzalski and freshman Carolyn Osborne.

Other finishes by the boys included sophomore Jacorey Dixon’s second-place finish in the 110 hurdles, fifth in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the 400 dash.

Sophomore Chandler Harkins finished sixth in the 1,600 and seventh in the 3,200.

Junior Harrison Brown finished eighth in the 3,200.

Steel grabbed third in the 100 and sixth in the 200.

Senior Keenan Sharp-Bryant finished fourth in the long jump and junior Christian Nilsen grabbed sixth in the discus.

The 4×100 team of Sanchez, Steel, Viera and freshman Nathan Chugg finished second.

For the girls, Dodd finished fourth in the 100 while junior Jessica Tobler finished fourth in the 3,200, sixth in the 1,600 and eighth in the 800.

The Lady Eagles’ 4×400 relay team of senior Tasja Toumasis, juniors Alexandria Gonzales and Eliza Jeppsen, and sophomore Whitney Barlow grabbed third.

The 4×800 team of Gonzales, Natalie Martinez, sophomore Savannah Morris and freshman Kennedy Bird grabbed sixth.

Osborne, Domzalski, Dodd and Toumasis finished seventh in 4×200.

Toumasis finished third in the 200 and 400, and Barlow finished eighth in the shot put.

Junior Avalon Frantz finished fifth in discus.
