City discusses ‘solar tree’ construction

By Nolan Lister, Boulder City Review

A proposal from the Public Works director to construct solar trees around the city was met with reluctance from members of the City Council during a regular meeting on March 13.

The solar trees are exactly what they sound like, large solar panels in the shape of trees. The trees would be used as charging stations around Boulder City to power electric cars.

The project would be funded by the $500,000 given to the city by energy company Sempra Generation as part of one of its lease solar agreements with the city. The money is to fund a renewable-energy project on public lands.
