Police: Prescription pill abuse a pandemic

The understanding of a word may provide some insight for simple comprehension. I know some may be saying, “What is he talking about?” Well, let me tell you. The word epidemic fails to fully communicate the reality of what is happening in our society, or even in our beautiful Boulder City.

The word pandemic provides a better foundation for explaining the deathly concern before us: prescription pill abuse.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse reports just over 36 percent of 12th-graders used marijuana in the past year. In the same 12 months, 14.8 percent of high-school seniors used a prescription drug nonmedically. Data for specific drugs show that the most commonly abused prescription drugs by teens are the stimulant Adderall and the pain reliever Vicodin.
