Summer is the peak season for one of the nation’s deadliest phenomena: lightning. An average of 66 people are killed by lightning each year in the United States alone. Individuals who are lucky enough to survive a direct hit from this awesome power suffer injuries with debilitating effects, such as severe burns, amputation of limbs, broken bones, memory loss, attention deficits, weakness and depression.
