Obama third president to visit BC: Economic troubles and energy project common themes

The best way to lure a sitting president to the Boulder City area is to entice them with the latest advancements in energy generation. It doesn’t hurt if the country’s in the middle of an economic crisis, either.

President Barack Obama’s visit Wednesday was the first to the area by a sitting U.S. president since the dedication of the dam in 1935.

On Sept. 30 nearly 77 years ago, President Franklin D. Roosevelt spoke to 10,000 spectators at the under-construction dam and 20 million over the radio. Echoing much of what Obama said during his visit Wednesday, Roosevelt talked in part about how the dam would help with the region’s energy needs.
