Library hosting tech seminar of eAudiobooks

The library staff will show how to check out eAudiobook from the library and put them on your mp3 player or smartphone at 6:30 p.m. today. Bring an eReader for practice. The library is at 701 Adams Blvd.

STOP DUI event scheduled Friday at Senior Center

STOP DUI co-founder and Executive Director Sandy Heverly will speak at 6:30
p.m. Friday at the Senior Center, 813 Arizona St. The event is free and open to the public but those ages 11-18 are especially encouraged to attend. STOP DUI is a Nevada grassroots nonprofit group dedicated to stopping driving under the influence and to assisting victims. A video of this year’s “Every 15 Minutes” at Boulder City High will be shown. All attendees receive a free drawing ticket for a chance to win gift cards from local restaurants and businesses.

Free family concert Saturday

Friends of the Arts will host a family-friendly free concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at the library amphitheater, 701 Adams Blvd. Arizona-based Talent Team Performing Arts youth group will perform “Totality — Americana Tour.” Bring lawn chairs if you don’t want to sit on the grass.

Nevada State Railroad Museum open weekends

For a larger-than-life train ride, bring the family to the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 600 Yucca St. The train leaves the station at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. It’s “all aboard” 15 minutes before departure. Adult fare is $10, children 4 through 11 are $5 and 3 and younger are free.

Senior Center open house

The Senior Center, 813 Arizona St., will hold an open house at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Staff, volunteers and board members will discuss new programs and give tours of the facility. Free hot dogs and lemonade will be served.

American Legion monthly meeting Tuesday

The public is invited to the American Legion’s breakfast at 7 a.m. Thursdays at the American Legion Hall, 508 California Way, between Boulder Bowl and Grace Church Academy. Legionnaires and all eligible veterans are invited to the American Legion meeting at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the hall. Call Cmdr. Wayne Curtis at 293-6622 for more information.

Library running adult summer reading program

The library is hosting its summer adult reading program, “Groundbreaking Reads,” for readers 16 and older. Read a book that was groundbreaking to you, then tell the library why.

Enter as many books as you would like for drawings throughout the summer.

Grace Christian Academy expands to new offerings

Grace Christian Academy, 512 California Ave., is accepting registration for its combined sixth- and seventh-grade class. Registration continues for grades K-5. Hospital gift shop, long-term care seek volunteers

The Boulder City Hospital Auxiliary is seeking volunteers to work in the Goldie Begley Gift Shoppe and in long-term care.

Emergency Aid seeking energetic volunteers

Emergency Aid, 600 Nevada Highway, needs volunteers to work in the office and pantry. People skills are a necessity, but computer skills are not. Office volunteers work one or two mornings a week.

Pantry workers can pick a few hours during the week. Emergency Aid also is looking for people who have a truck and are willing to pick up deliveries to the pantry, or a pantry assistant to stock produce.

Help also is needed checking in clients. Office and pantry hours are 9 a.m. to noon. Call 293-0332 to make an appointment.

Museum to host ‘Dig Into History’ program July 8

The Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum will host a kids archaeology mock excavation 2 p.m. July 8 in partnership with the Lost City Museum in Overton. Museum is at 1305 Arizona St. Ages 7-13.

Democratic Club’s monthly meeting set for July 11

The Boulder City Democratic Club’s monthly meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. July 11 at the library, 701 Adams Blvd.

State Sen. Tick Segerblom, D-Las Vegas, will provide an analysis of the recently completed state legislative session. The event is open to the public.

VFW meets second Saturday

The local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars meets the second Saturday of the month with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting at noon at the Senior Center, 813 Arizona St. Call Bob Garlow at 808-4755 for information.

AAUW meets third Monday

Women of Boulder City are invited to stop in for a monthly meeting of the American Association of University Women at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at the Boulder Dam Museum meeting room, second floor of the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.

Homestead to hold workshops, support groups

The Homestead announces a series of eight workshops aimed at educating the public on aging, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The workshops will be led by Mary Shapiro, gerontologist and author. All workshops take place at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month at The Homestead, 1401 Medical Park Drive. The next workshop is “How to cope when words fail” on July 18.

The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Memory Loss Support Group at 1 p.m. All workshops and support groups are free.
