■ National Park Service presents “The Mystery of St. Thomas” for all ages at 1 p.m. today in the community room.

■ Lego challenge returns at 4 p.m. today in the community room. Ages 6 and over.

■ The Hampstead Stage presents the play “The Secret Garden” 11 a.m.-noon Friday in the community room. All ages welcome.

■ Movie of the month “Raiders of the Lost Ark” will be shown at 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room. The 115-minute movie is rated PG.

■ Baby Boogie: Let’s Dance will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the community room for ages 7 and under.

■ Marble painting activity for kids ages 6 and older will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the community room.

■ Story time session will be Wednesday with ages 2-5 at 10 a.m. and younger than 36 months at 11 a.m.

■ Dinosaur Club’s sixth meeting, Dino Bones Experiment, is at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the board room. Ages 7 and older.

■ National Parks present Underwater Archaeology at Lake Mead at 1 p.m. Aug. 1 in the community room. Ages 12 and older.

American Legion pancake breakfast Thursdays

The public is invited to the American Legion’s breakfast at 7 a.m. Thursdays at the American Legion Hall, 508 California Way, between Boulder Bowl and Grace Church Academy. Legionnaires and all eligible veterans are invited to the American Legion meeting at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the hall. Call Cmdr. Wayne Curtis at 293-6622 for more information.

Nevada State Railroad Museum open weekends

For a larger-than-life train ride, bring the family to the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 600 Yucca St. The train leaves the station at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. It’s “all aboard” 15 minutes before departure. Adult fare is $10, children 4 through 11 are $5 and 3 and younger are free.

Lady Eagles volleyball open gym is on Wednesdays

The Boulder City High girls volleyball team will hold its open gym workout from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the school’s gym. The last open gym sessions will be Aug. 7. The program will hold its annual summer camp from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12-14 with visiting coaches from All American Volleyball. Team tryouts are from 8-11:30 a.m. Aug. 19-21. Library hosting tech seminar on eBooks

Library will host a class on how to check out eBooks and put them on an eReader at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 1. Bring an eReader or laptop for practice.

Hospital gift shop, long-term care seek volunteers

The Boulder City Hospital Auxiliary is seeking volunteers to work in the Goldie Begley Gift Shoppe and in long-term care.

Call 293-4111 and ask for the gift shop, or stop by the gift shop for an application. The application also is available at the hospital website, www.bchcares.org. Click on the “Auxiliary” tab.

Emergency Aid seeking energetic volunteers

Emergency Aid, 600 Nevada Highway, needs volunteers to work in the office and pantry. People skills are a necessity, but computer skills are not. Office volunteers work one or two mornings a week.

Pantry workers can pick a few hours during the week. Emergency Aid also is looking for people who have a truck and are willing to pick up deliveries to the pantry, or a pantry assistant to stock produce. Help also is needed checking in clients.

Office and pantry hours are 9 a.m. to noon. Call 293-0332 to make an appointment.

AAUW meets third Monday

Women of Boulder City are invited to stop in for a monthly meeting of the American Association of University Women at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at the Boulder Dam Museum meeting room, second floor of the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.

VFW meets second Saturday

The local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars meets the second Saturday of the month with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting at noon at the Senior Center, 813 Arizona St. Call Bob Garlow at 808-4755 for information.

Homestead to hold support groups, workshops

The Homestead announces a series of eight workshops aimed at educating the public on aging, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The workshops will be led by Mary Shapiro, gerontologist and author. All workshops take place at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month at The Homestead, 1401 Medical Park Drive. The Aug. 15 topic will be “I Love You But You’re Driving Me Crazy.”

The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Memory Loss Support Group at 1 p.m. All workshops and support groups are free.

Day of Dead skulls on sale

The Boulder City Art Guild and Gallery inside the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St., will host the Day of the Dead porcelain skull sale through Oct. 18. For $12, buy, decorate and donate the skull back for a silent auction fundraiser for the guild to be at 6 p.m. Nov. 1. Call 501-9219 or email the thecornergallery@gmail.com for more information.
