■ National Park Service presents “Saved by the Jacket Water Safety” for all ages at 1 p.m. today in the community room.

■ Family storytime theme is “Roots,” at 7 p.m. today. There will be science, crafts, games, Legos and stories for all ages in the community room.

■ Animated 1988 classic “Land Before Time” will be shown at 1 p.m. Friday in the community room. The 73-minute movie is rated G and follows five orphaned dinosaurs working together to find the Great Valley where they might live peacefully.

■ Shark Week party for ages 12-17 will be at 4 p.m. Monday in the community room. Registration required at 293-1281.

■ Storytime session will be Wednesday with ages 2-5 at 10 a.m., and younger than 36 months at 11 a.m.

■ Dinosaur Club’s fifth meeting, Fossil Making, is at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the board room. Ages 7 and older.

■ National Park Service presents “The Mystery of St. Thomas” for all ages at 1 p.m. July 25 in the community room.

■ Lego challenge returns at 4 p.m. July 25 in the community room. Ages 6 and over.

Library running adult summer reading program

The library is hosting its summer adult reading program, “Groundbreaking Reads,” for readers 16 and older. Read a book that was groundbreaking to you, then tell the library why. Enter as many books as you would like for drawings throughout the summer.

American Legion pancake breakfast Thursdays

The public is invited to the American Legion’s breakfast at 7 a.m. Thursdays at the American Legion Hall, 508 California Way, between Boulder Bowl and Grace Church Academy. Homestead to hold support groups, workshops today

The Homestead announces a series of eight workshops aimed at educating the public on aging, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The workshops will be led by Mary Shapiro, gerontologist and author. All workshops take place at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month at The Homestead, 1401 Medical Park Drive. Today’s topic is “How to Cope When Words Fail.”

The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Memory Loss Support Group at 1 p.m. All workshops and support groups are free.

Library to discuss email basics today

The library will hold Computer Class: Email Basics at 1:30 p.m. today in its computer lab. The library is at 701 Adams Blvd.

Museum Third Thursday program today

The Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum will host archaeologist Dena Sedar of the Lost City Museum in Overton. She will discuss “Mysteries of Ancestral Puebloans: Incised Stones of the Lost City Museum” at 6 p.m. July 18. Nevada State Railroad Museum open weekends

For a larger-than-life train ride, bring the family to the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 600 Yucca St. The train leaves the station at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. It’s “all aboard” 15 minutes before departure. Adult fare is $10, children 4 through 11 are $5 and 3 and younger are free.

BC Art Guild to host blank book-making class Monday

The Boulder City Art Guild and Gallery will host a simple blank book-making class taught by book artist Lynda Whitehair at 6 p.m. Monday in the Boulder Dam Hotel downstairs conference room, 1305 Arizona St. Fee is $10 and space is limited, so call 501-9219 or email the cornergallery@gmail.com for a reservation. Event is a fundraiser for the Boulder City Art Guild.

Day of the Dead skull sale starts Monday

The Boulder City Art Guild and Gallery inside the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St., will host the Day of the Dead porcelain skull sale through Oct. 18. The library will hold tech seminar on its career transitions database at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. Search for jobs, create a resume, write a cover letter and practice interviewing through the database. The library is at 701 Adams Blvd.

Lady Eagles volleyball open gym held on Wednesdays

The Boulder City High girls volleyball team will hold open gym workouts from
12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the school’s gym. Other open gym sessions are at same time July 24, 31 and Aug. 7. The program will hold its annual summer camp from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12-14 with visiting coaches from All American Volleyball.

Benefit concert set July 28

Local musician Phil Esser will perform at 3 p.m. July 28 in a fundraiser for Lend a Hand and Emergency Aid. The concert will be at the Elaine Smith Center, 700 Wyoming St. Tickets are $20 and available at Plaza Realty, 581 Hotel Plaza, or by calling 293-2440.

Proceeds will be split 50-50 between the two charities. Other musicians include Sandy Nelson, Charlie Shaffer, Bob Baker, Greg Langley, Arno Marsh, Nancy Porter and Alan Ayoub.

The Boulder City Hospital Auxiliary is seeking volunteers to work in the Goldie Begley Gift Shoppe and in long-term care.

Emergency Aid seeking energetic volunteers

Emergency Aid, 600 Nevada Highway, needs volunteers to work in the office and pantry. People skills are a necessity, but computer skills are not. Office volunteers work one or two mornings a week.

Pantry workers can pick a few hours during the week. Emergency Aid also is looking for people who have a truck and are willing to pick up deliveries to the pantry, or a pantry assistant to stock produce. Help also is needed checking in clients.

Office and pantry hours are 9 a.m. to noon. Call 293-0332 to make an appointment.

AAUW meets third Monday
